I think he was using abroad with contract :S and now he has brought it here without canceling the contract..

I noticed that the last photo of the iPhone has the "Connect to iTunes" logo. Please correct me if I am wrong, but I think that logo means that the phone needs to be restored. That would mean that the phone was either being modded and the mod was not successful which caused the logo to appear. Or something else happened to the phone. If the restoration is not done properly, then the phone can get bricked.
I browsed on the internet to find a solution for this, The solution is a "tethered jailbreak" but the solution seems to be a hit or miss...working for some and not working for most. Usually, the device needs to be taken back to the Apple Store!
Does anybody know for sure if this phone can be fixed? I don't want to land myself a lemon after paying 28 grands!

Like mine, I've bricked my iphone 3gs.. I've corrupt 3.1.2 firmware in new bootrom and I cant restore. coz if I restore, it will install new firmware 3.1.3 which doesn't have any unlock right now and my baseband will upgrade too.
The 3gs of yours need to be in working condition to be sold.

It has the connect to itunes symbol but it also has the slide to unlock bar on the screen.. that means u just have to connect the phone to itunes to state whether you want to set it up as a completely new phone or you want to restore a backup of another phone on it... so in short the phone has working firmware on it might be 3.1.2 to get more details off the phone use f0recast download it from here or insert a sim connect to itunes and check.

Sorry, I was offline so couldn't respond to the queries.
As I said before, since I have no knowledge of iphone unlocking and all, I don't want to mess with it. I'm afraid I might break it.
And if it helps the folks here: A guy came to my place yesterday with his laptop to check it out. He put his Airtel simcard in it and connected it to ITunes but there was some message like "Sim card not supported". He called a friend of his and also did some search online with the serial no. of the phone, told me since earphones are not included and they cost Rs 3K, his max. offer is 25K
Now, I don't know what did he conclude after talking to his friend or online. But, I was not convinced that earphones should cost at max 1K, so I counter-offered him 27K but he stuck to his offer.
So, guys, I called my cousin last evening and he asked me to try to get more than 25K, else decide myself.
Anyone interested in paying 26.5K ?? I'm updating the post as well to reflect this new lower price.

No, he didn't contact me through techenclave.com but is a known person of a colleague of mine. He had iphone 3g and said was looking to upgrade to 3gs. But I couldn't digest that earphones would cost 3K, why would anyone buy them for that price
??

@DealWise - Bro i do not think anyone will buy this if they arnt sure if this can be unlocked or not .. So why dont you go to Pallika bazzar or Ghaffar market and get this unlocked .. It will cost you like 200-300 Rs and then u can easily sell of the phone here otherwise there is no way to confirm if this is unlockable etc ..
