Are Set-top Boxes PC compatible?

no it doesnt..u'll hv to first bring the videos to ur PC via the USB port on the DVR nd then u can obviously do watever u want!

^^ What a shame!!!! Never liked the quality of TV prog. recorded through PC.

Also one more question:-

CAN we use third party DVR's like Humax DRT800 to record from tata sky or dish tv??

i have DISH TV for last one year.

the com port is for FW upgrade only and to rescue a screwed STB if FW upgrade fails.

You can connect two tvs through one STB (one through AV out and one through RF out) but you cant select different channels.

I am also looking for more info on DISH DVR. not much on DISH TV site though.

It costs somewhere around Rs.16000 Upside can record upto 6 channels( that is what they say) Downside :- sometimes its freezes up and has to be restarted, sometimes it forgets to record channels and occasionally it crashes wiping all data stored in its hard drive.Add to that bad customer care service.

But still if you have a DTH, having a DVR makes perfect sense.

Tata sky gives you two stbs per subscription (this is what cable companies do in the US). DishTV (Zee) only provides 1.

Hi the last time I checked Tata sky *did not* give 2 stbs. Its 1 per subscription.

If you want additional. You have to buy an STB and it costs 100 bucks /pm additional subscription

Cheers!

Of course TATA Sky can work with an MCE PC, me doing the same. I am using Hauppauge PVR 150 MCE tuner card and TATA sky set top box terminating to my tuner. I am also able to change channels using MCE remote so its great.

^^Isn't the Hauppauge PVR 150 MCE an analogue tuner card?? I am surprised that it works with digital tv services like the tata sky.

BTW< the question is whether the set-top box can act as an external tuner for your computer also and whether you can record tv that way using recording software??

Guys...right now ive split my tv connection for my pc so i and my dad can watch whatever we want. But when CAS comes in, will it be possible to use the same set top box and then split the line into 2 for the tv and pc? I doubt, coz then we will be forced to watch the same channel at both places which is useless!
What is the most cost-effective solution in this case? Split after main settop box, then attach another externally obtained STB at the pc?
