hi all,
I was using my desktop as usual, all of sudden my mouse froze .
I thought it will come back in some time,so i went to clean mouse feet.
in meanwhile I pressed windows button,no response.
I tried to play with keyboard no help.
Finally i noticed few weird pixels on display and it was still dead system with no responses.
after waiting for good 10 min.i forced system restart by pressing power button,

Now system is not giiving any display and i hear the fans whir and run as usual but with no display,
display remains in standby mode only.

I suspect my motherboard has gone bad.

here is my specifications.

Asus M4a 785 dm pro
AMD 635 processor
4 GB ddr 2 ram
seaget 500 gb boot drive and 1tb green drive as storage.
corsair cx 400 ps

now system is starting up but no display.
what do i do?

what is most likely cause?

thanks guys.
get me right through this hell.

how do i troubleshoot here?

Re: ??? mobo failure?

First of all remove all the addons and check the system on bare minimum (mobo+proccy+ram+psu) if display comes, if yes then one of your addon card might be the culprit

Do you hear any kind of beep?

I did pull out all ram and add on cards.

But still no luck.

Only weird part is before it died it was showing pixels as if display was getting torned out.

So I suspect my onboard display has died.

Am I right?

to clear that doubt you can use a pci-e gfx card, if your mobo is under warranty then RMA is you option else its shopping time :)

I spoke with great Rashi for rma. My area does not come under their courier so I have to send it to somewhere.they want 8 to 10 days.

Now I can't wait for so long.

What are my options?

I was looking at gigabyte 970 d3 version and its costing 99 Usd at newegg for atx and I could not find it here Indian websites.

guy which motherboard you suggest?

i decided to switch from asus.i dont like the way its handled by rashi.

its not like asus does not make great motherboard but their support system is worst.

which company has better quality control and better rma if required?

Guys suggest me new motherboard.

Rashi as usual.

Who handles rma for gigabyte??

^^ For Gigabyte India and MSi India the RMA is handeled by Accel Services, really happy with their response and alacrity in solving matters for their consumers, got my burnt MSi HD 5770 RMA-ed in 2 weeks for a MSi HD 5770 HAWK.

Ironically I have a M4A785TD-V EVO, so was able to live without the card for that time [the onboard HD 4250 powered my 5th re-run in World in COnflict @hard settings {gameplay}].

For a motherboard what is your budget and usage pattern, also what is your usual time to up-grade the computer peripherals? If you can answer these questions of mine, it might be better to wait for ~ 2 months and jump onto the AMD FX-8*** / 6*** bandwagon [Bulldozer cometh], which I hope doesn't get rescheduled, again.

Cheers Sire, hope this helped.

Hey thanks alpha,

My upgrade cycle is usually 3 yrs or so.

Usage is general home use.

Not heavy at all.

Just day to day computing.

I also don't have much expectation with bulldozer as of now.

Most probably will keep this setup. For another 2yrs or so.

Budget is around 6000.

Cheers mate.

^^ Get this motherboard Gigabyte GA-880GMA-UD2H ~ 4800/- OR Gigabyte GA-880GM-UD2H ~ 4400/- [the non A version doesn't support USB 3.0 as SATA III], else get this motherboard from ASUS itself M4A87TD EVO ~ 6700/-.

^^ The ASUS M4A87TD EVO is a full-ATX motherboard but doesn't carry a IGP, so for you another option is -- M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3 OR from the Gigabyte stables, you've got the GA-880G-UD3H OR GA-880GA-UD3H [again the A version supports USB 3.0 and SATA III, while the other version doesn't support the same http://www.gigabyte.in/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3448#ov], but I doubt these boards will fall around 6000/- mark, expect to shell ~7000/- for these pieces.

Hope this helps, Sire, cheers!

Cheers alpha, visiting great rashi peripheral today or tomorrow.

Lets see.

I am going to order that gigabyte if rashi turns out as expected.

Already ordered 4gb gskill ripjaws ram for 31 Usd.

Hunting for standby graphics card just for heck of it.

So far zeroed in on 5450 for job.

Can you suggest any other card for duty of just simple video playback of 1080p?

Thanks again.

Go ahead with the AMD HD 5450, I think it'll be more than sufficient for HD movie watching, but if you play casual games on occasion, consider the HD 5670 OR HD 6670, you'll be covered for the future which is not the case with the 5450. Cheers, Sire!!

Hope this helped.

just thought i will post my experience of rashi and decide about purchase or wait till asus/rashi gives me working motherboard.

I visited rashi service center and i succeded in getting on the spot replacement with anouther motherboard .

only compromise i had to do was accept ddr3 board and let go back plate esata port.

I accepted bait and went and bought DDR 3 ram.

luckily that rashi guy turned up at shop where i was purchasing RAM and he and dealer advised me to buy full 4GB ram stick as one DIMM as i told them i will settle with 4GB ram.

I happily bought 4GB ram stick of Kingston and started my journey home.

as soon as i reached home, finished dinner and assembled system.

It started as it is on windows 32bit.

I was happy that my ordeal is over.

Next morning I tried to start system and their i was standing with stuck system but with working DIsplay out and all.

Went to BIos nothing wrong and system was refusing to boot into windows and it used to be stuck at windows orb animation.

I tried updating bios, removed all add on cards no luck, removed all Extra hard disks.

no luck and still able to go into bios and all, tried resetting bios to defaults and all.

I reflashed latest ram also .

tried all known tricks.

thought i will format and reinstall .

I connected Boot HDD as HDD----ESATA bracket----ESATA cable----ESATA Express card to laptop.copied and did all backup of 32 bit windows.

formatted and checked SMART data with Seaget tools no issues their.

But my motherboard refused to go beyond orb animation of starting windows.

I gave up and decided to take whole cpu to rashi,

I bought 2*2GB ram of kingston 1333mhz and tried at dealer as well no luck.

Finally went to RASHI and showed them entire Problem,

their and their only they told me give us motherboard for RMA and i dis assembled system and gave them of my Board.

now its almost 1 month and i am still without my Desktop.

I dont know whom to blame .

whether ASUS does compromise on lower end motherboard?

Or their Quality control is bad or My luck is bad?

what do i do?

Do I go Ahead and buy Gigabyte board and finsih of this?

Please advice.

Saga comes to end.

Got call from rashi.

my old motherboard is repaired and its arrived.

So now I am supposed to go and pick it up.

Now I am left with 4 gb ddr3 ram of Kingston.

Yet to go and discuss about it all.

Let's see.

Maybe I will return the Kingston ram.

One is still not opened and I am still thinking about whether to get gigabyte 880gma ud3h (may be wrong name) its atx am3+ board.

What do you all suggest.

How long can repaired asus motherboard expected to work? ?

How is their workman ship and overall quality of repair? ?

Help me decide guys.

Asus and its great repair are just gimmick.

Today after three months almost I put all thing together.

But still getting same issue.

Now I spoke with rma guys and we decided to issue credit note for the motherboard.

Now for exact one year old motherboard, how much depreciation they will consider?

I am finally leaving asus out of my preferred brands as I think their components selection is not good for mid end boards as well.

Visiting rashi after Diwali.

Rashi did work put good for me but asus components ain't good for me.

Three months I am without working pc.

Sad sad sad.
