Hi Folks .... need your H.E.L.P again

Re: Connecting a legacy PCI Sound card to my New RIG
- Nothing happens [PC does NOT BOOT at all]

Sound Card : Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2 Platinum
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum
Motherboard : Gigabyte Z77X-UD5H WB Wi-Fi
Processor : i7-3770K
Power Supply : Seasonic X-760 (SS760KM ) modular with type of cables and connectors here
OS : Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

On sunday I tried to connect my much loved Audio card along with the Drive in the only PCI slot available. I presume I used the correct power connector cable (in series from the PSU & not from the motherboard) ..... however my PC just refused to boot-up and nothing at all on the screen. The debug LED Code (displayed on motherboard) is 72 (as per the manual is - PCH devices initialisation). I waited for a few minutes ..... nothing happenned - reset button did not work. Switched off the Unit from the power-mains. Tried again - no further progress.

I followed instructions in installing the PCI card & inter-connecting the Audigy 2 Drive + these steps - what I have not connected are the audio cables to the DVD/CDROM - since my DVD drive is a SATA device.

Have i connected the right power supply cable - not sure ?

I would love to have the Audigy up and running by the end of this week. I have downloaded all the necessary drivers that ought to make this work from Creative's site
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy series driver 2.18.0017 | and here
another - the daniel_k version SB Audigy Series Support Pack 4.0 (01/12/2012) - Final Version which is better BUT no luck in getting/downloading it .... mirror sites do not work.

Note: I had read earlier that folks have managed to get this card working on Windows 7 64bit .... but not sure on a Z77 board. Perhaps I ought to retrace my steps and cross check the cables, etc.

see my earlier thread can PCI card work in PCIe slot ... this was sorted & the answer NO. However now I am struggling to fit it onto a PCI slot .... but stuck

tagging @ALPHA17; @sumonpathak; @6pack

Thanks
Terry

time to move on buddy. get an asus xonar or something better. why take unnecessary headaches for an old card with unsupported drivers? in time the card or its drivers may or may not work or fail in between when you're in the middle of something important and might crash windows. Imo, windows is very forgiving with pci cards and if its unable to boot with your card then something must be wrong with it.

that pch device initialization points to mobo chipset fault - Platform Controller Hub - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

does the comp boot properly without the card installed?

I've had my new RIG up & running for 3 weeks now..... working great. It's was only on Sunday that I had the time to check whether the Audigy could be revived.

Sigh .... It's hard to say goodbye to an an trusted GF (she never troubled me in those 9 years) :couple_inlove: .... I guess it's time:kiss::bye1:

Should I still risk one last shot ....... would it damage my new system. ..... (I've disconnected it, but it's lying around inside my Storm Stryker)

Or else ..... Put it up on TE (as an free offer to any Audiophilic Lover..... if it could be of use to someone else). I've kept everything that came with the Audigy (including the Box !!!)

whaddya think of the above @ALPHA17 & @6pack

I am still at work and want to read up the link you suggested ..... on wiki

As 6pack has already mentioned chances of the card running are almost NIL but if you want a shot, go for it by all means.

Do you think Open source OS / Mac OS will allow the card to run? Eh @6pack?

You can put it up in the give-away thread if you feel you have exhausted all means to make it work in your current system (including open OS / Hackintosh). Charge a token amount for shipping and preserving such a boss card.

Regards and hope things work out for you.

The final phase of configuring my new rig is the Hackintosh ... but not until Jan 2013. Dunno about open source ...but Mac OS would be IMPOSSIBLE for this Card on my set-up.

(still at work)

Debian or Ubuntu might have generic drivers for it since its an old card. Hackintosh? If you want to go bald trying to figure out how to make it work, go for it.
Taking a last risk in your new rig is your choice. would you risk a 9 yr card going kaput and taking along with it a brand new system that is probably 10-15 times more costly than itself? Better to retire the old card with fond memories than tears and curses.

The Hackintosh plan was conceived of without the Audigy 2 in mind ..... Abhay@ALPHA17 was aware of my (almost a year long planning curve on this new RIG). All the more reason for me now to just forget about it

I guess I was being too naive, thanks for waking me up from my nostalgia with the Audigy ..... No one ever makes cards like these anymore.

I shall pack it up first thing in the morning and then decide on the next step.
