hey guys i am looking for something like this :-

i want some system in my door such that the door automatically shuts and then locks , then it can be only opened by some person from inside manually .

i know of hydraulic door closers which will only close the gate , but how will the gate get auto locked ??

and please tell me how much do this will cost , i want some cheap solutions ..
after searching i found the hydraulic door closers to be around 600-1000 rupees . but what about the auto door lock , whats that gonna cost , or is there any other type of auto locking system ..

guys my budget will be from 1000 to max 2500 rupees ..

thanks !!

I can suggest you a 'ghetto' Idea.

Just install a normal lever lock like this:

and remove the lever (easily removable) from the outer-side of the door. No one would be able to open it from outside that way because they would not have the lever to move. Install the normally available spring mechanisms to lock the door automatically as soon as it's released after being opened.

Total Setup: ~400-600 Rs.

You can also try this type of lock. On the outside there is no lever as such only the key needs to be inserted and rotated and the door pushed to open. For locking the door, the door needs to be shut either from the inside or outside.

Combine it with a hydraulic thing to auto push the door and you have a auto locking setup.

whats this thing costs ??

one question about this ..

if the gate shuts this lock will get active , so do we need keys from the inside also to unlock or is there any lever for the inside person ??
for outside person it seems good as there will be no lever but only key needs to unlock and push the door .

@arihant

your idea is also cool , will think abt it ..

That lever in the image, can be turned clock-wise and the lock opens. If a second lever is press (small one) -- rotated, then the lock is in "lock mode". No key can be applied from the inside.

Incident happened yesterday: I went to meet my landlord for some work. I rang the bell, and he came out in shorts.. as we were talking at the doorstep, suddenly a heavy gust of wind blew in & locked the door.. unfortunately, he was alone at home with keys inside and standing outside in just shorts.. :) poor fella..

@trigger ... lol happens many times, especially with doors which are slightly tilted and which tend to sway themselves shut, even a mild breeze locks them up. I have made a habit of turning the small lever to "lock-up" everytime I open the door if I have to talk with someone on the stairs outside.

@rajeshjsl ... Keys are required only for the person who is outside. The small lever is used to lock the device, if its in use then even a key wont work, the only way to open the door is through the inside.

Two incidents with these type of locks...at a friends place.

1. We stepped out of the house, it was nice and windy in the sultry heat of Delhi. Big gust of wind. Locked out. I was in jeans t-shirt, he was in shorts and undershirt. Luckily he had given a spare key to a friend. We went "like that" to his house.

2. Again we were locked out. Friend did not have a spare key to his flat. We had to call a guy to break the lock. Was a pain.

Now he wears the spare key around his neck..!

Bumping this old thread. There was a thread related to hardware stores but couldn't find it.
Has anyone of you heard or have experience of buying from Volo Shoppe?
Looking to buy few items such as door closers etc.
