Dunno if I'm OT here anyways - the power thing adi :P is a little overrated IMO. See I'm testing on an x6800 and 2 GB memory, 8800GTX and 2 HDD's plus a DVD burner. All this on a neo power 480W which our office test beds all use. No power issues, no throttling down for the card. I used two PSU's one discretely for the card to verify this. Of course SLI will be another matter, but the 620W should suffice.

PM me his address pls :ohyeah: Oh...does he have insurance :P

I doubt the 620W will handle and OC'ed SLi'ed system wih a couple of HDD's and CCFL's, etc (Since its gonna be a gaming rig obvsly)..

Well, that is the best PSU available in India ATM. So what can I do.

It better be able to hold it, with a E6700 @ around 3.6 Ghz, (Yes My friend is stupid, even a E66 can do that), 4GB RAM (Waste I know), 500Gx2 Hitachi's, 2x8800GTX's (I told him GTS' will give him the same performance, due to CPU bottleneck, he wont listen..)

Anyways, thats about it.

75k for the graphic card alone that will be obsolete in less than 2 years..wow...

He is an Indian right....earning Indian rupees....

hehe...Now thats the difference b/w lot of money and too much money :S

is he buying a Dell 30" LCD too?

tell him to order 850W OCZ GameXStream Power Supply SLI-Ready (EU version) if he has so much money :P

He can try to get Seventeam from SMC at Delhi, I had posted earlier about high power requirements and low_bass_makker helped me out with that....

You can get a 1000W PSU of the best quality from what I've read, once I get a chance to install it and test it out I'll let you know how it handles.

It cost me 16,500 all inclusive with shipping to Kolkata and local taxes. I'm sure SMC has some dealer in Mumbai as well.

Btw the 8800 GTX SLI won't have a CPU bottleneck depending on the resolution he plays on and the game he plays....he should really consider putting out some money for a 30" or at the very least a 24" Dell.

An E6600 instead of E6700, 8800 GTS 640MB SLI instead of GTX SLI and a Dell 24" instead of 20" Viewsonic would be a good choice.

Try to convince him that.

He wants "THE BEST" PC for 2 years.

i was like your pc will become as good as outdated, outside a year...

d00d a 20" is a WASTE for 2 8800 GTX...one is more than enough.

If he is willing to get a 24" Dell or equivalent then it will be worthwhile to get SLI but the best use is still with 30" monitors.

And theres really no point to getting SLI as when the 9xxx series comes out around november/december this year one high end 9 series card will probably be better than 8900 GTX in SLI...or at the very least equal to it.

The monitor btw is not something that becomes obsolete very quickly so a 24" monitor should serve him well for many many years if he decided to keep it that long.

The point of SLI is not just maxed out details but also high res gaming.

^IMHO, SLI is a bit of a waste if you have a card like the 7950GT or faster. It basically helps you bump up your resolution by 1 or 2 notches, with double the heat output and power consumption.
