^I think the ban will be continued, since its not withdrawn. If it's still available, then get it all you can :P

dont go by stupid media and hype. the notification that has been cleared is not known to ANYONE yet, wait for the scanned copy to come online to know the clauses under which it has been banned, and what is allowed, what is not. dont be a newstrader hippie for a change, lets be rational normal people and get full data and not rely on assumptions.

Supreme court has struck down total animal slaughter bills in the past. This one is going to get challenged.

Mohd. Hanif Qureshi v. State of Bihar (AIR 1959 SCR 629), Hashumatullah v. State of Madhya Pradesh, Abdul Hakim and others v. State of Bihar (AIR 1961 SC 448) and Mohd. Faruk v. State of Madhya Pradesh, the Supreme Court has held that, "A total ban [on cattle slaughter] was not permissible if, under economic conditions, keeping useless bull or bullock be a burden on the society and therefore not in the public interest

Depriving people of a source of livelihood is another challenge i recall using the constitution.

Good political stunt, enjoy it while it lasts :D

I do eat beef but I don't like it that much. pork iz best!
I'll go buy a kilo of beef tomorrow as a protest in my individual capacity. :P

On a side note a high ranking govt. official on condition of anonymity informed that our PM is actually a pro-veg and not pro-hindu as claimed many times in the media and elsewhere. He further said that he will ban pork next to be shortly followed by a closed-door meeting with PETA on the potential ban of all things fish and poultry. This, he says is actually a political reason and not religious which will ensure him a second term on the Throne. The official added this is just the beginning and the real #AccheDin is yet to begin. Reuters.

@iPwnz : Yea, pork is best. Bacon.
Oh you too? lucky you. :3
Pork here in Delhi is cheap just around 120-160. but in some NE states they now cost 250/kg. Thinking of doing pig breeding business haha. Beef is not consumed much that side though.

in relation with the 1958 case, and under Article 48 (Part IV, Directive Principles of State Policy, under the light of which the constitutionality of laws is examined) which states that: (the) State shall preserve and improve the breeds and prohibit the slaughter of cows, calves and other cows and drought cattle, from a more recent case...

STATE OF GUJARAT V. MIRZAPUR MOTI KURESHI KASSAB JAMAT & ORS [2005] RD-SC 604 (26 October 2005)

on the findings of the 1958 case :-

...the Court must see whether the social control envisaged by Article 19 (1) is being effectuated by the restrictions imposed on the fundamental right. However important the right of a citizen or an individual may be it has to yield to the larger interests of the country or the community.

This Court while acting as a sentinel on the qui vive to protect fundamental rights guaranteed to the citizens of the country must try to strike a just balance between the fundamental rights and the larger and broader interests of society so that when such a right clashes with a larger interest of the country it must yield to the latter.

In the light of the material available in abundance before us, there is no escape from the conclusion that the protection conferred by impugned enactment on cow progeny is needed in the interest of Nation’s economy. Merely because it may cause ‘inconvenience’ or some ‘dislocation’ to the butchers, restriction imposed by the impugned enactment does not cease to be in the interest of the general public.

Independent India, having got rid of the shackles of foreign rule, was not even 11 years old then. Since then, the Indian economy has made much headway and gained a foothold internationally. Constitutional jurisprudence has indeed changed from what it was in 1958, as pointed out earlier.
Our socio-economic scenario has progressed from being gloomy to a shining one, full of hopes and expectations and determinations for present and future. Our economy is steadily moving towards prosperity in a planned way through five year plans, nine of which have been accomplished and tenth is under way.

...followed by the findings of this particular case

Finding #4 -
…For multiple reasons which we have stated in very many details while dealing with Question-6 in Part II of the judgment, we have found that bulls and bullocks do not become useless merely by crossing a particular age. The Statement of Objects and Reasons, apart from other evidence available, clearly conveys that cow and her progeny constitute the backbone of Indian agriculture and economy. …This Statement of Objects and Reasons tilts the balance in favour of the constitutional validity of the impugned enactment.…Times have changed; so have changed the social and economic needs. The Legislature has correctly appreciated the needs of its own people and recorded the same in the Preamble of the impugned enactment and the Statement of Objects and Reasons appended to it. In the light of the material available in abundance before us, there is no escape from the conclusion that the protection conferred by impugned enactment on cow progeny is needed in the interest of Nation's economy. Merely because it may cause 'inconvenience' or some 'dislocation' to the butchers, restriction imposed by the impugned enactment does not cease to be in the interest of the general public. The former must yield to the latter.

P.S. - the slaughter of female buffaloes and their calves may continue in the present case, provided the authorities permit it.

Can this be challenged or not. it has been in other areas. there is no way to get a total ban.

So the status quo will return sooner or later.

I only eat processed pork. Salami, bacon, sausages, and ham. Not pork meat like how we buy mutton. I do not trust how the pigs are raised here. :)

Now this. Total ban is there in J&K from what I can tell:
http://www.dahd.nic.in/dahd/reports.../chapter-ii-executive-summary/annex-ii-8.aspx

There hasn't been a total clarity on what Maha government has banned really. But then let it be our secular media and TE folks to fluff it up

the beef-traders association is already preparing to go to the court.

and apart from J&K, atleast Rajasthan (and MP too i think, though beef used to be available there in some areas in restaurants publicly till a couple of years back; don't know about now) have a total ban. some other states have what may be termed as 'blanket ban'.
