depends. If u deal with +R discs then stay with BSLB if u are having only -R discs then the new one is amazing. But there are other problems with qscan which I too have experinced.

Just picked up my 1640 today..

Installed without a hitch, and flashed to BSMB now.. Will pickup a few DVD-R's today to test.
