I just checked and I could buy a Montra Jazz A for nearly half the price of that of the Trek. Also it has narrower tyres(700x28) than that of Trek(700x35), something I was looking for.

yes, but, you'll have to do extensive study on whats compatible, maybe do a bit of mods for it to fit well, and still be unsure. The costs will be as much as a decent cycle itself.dont trust these so called disk brake setups.even half decent ones start from over 7k.so,if you do find disks on a cheap bike, you can imagine how much cost cutting they do.

or maybe,if you get compatible brake pads, like 'koolstop' or decent OEM brakepads(oem of major brands/phoren brands) which will go with your current setup, the compound change itself will make a LOT of difference,if set up well. Also,RIm condition(i assume you have rim brakes) also matters.grease/muck/rust could play a big role in brake performance.

IMO you dont mess with brakes unless you have considerable experience with bike repair.best left to pro's,as the brakes are vital.finding competent bike servicers who dont use a hammer as a laakh dukhon ki ek dawa is another story in itself.

did you size it for yourself?dont go by the usual seat adjustment will fix everything.it wont.Firefox stations usually try to palm off anything and everything in stock,to clear it, on you, unless you know what you are doing.

Thanks for your reply!
Yea,spending 7K for only brakes is really not a good idea.
Better I'm gonna save money and later gonna buy any 10K Bicycle in future.

I wouldn't recommend getting the Montra.

TI are trying to do a decent thing here with the Montra brand name, but they haven't been super convincing IMHO. Launching a fancy premium carbon bike with flat bars was just plain dumb.
There have also been QC issues (I think, not a 100% sure, check BikesZone for reports). I would stick to a brand that has a bit more of history behind it.

For parts/accessories, there are a bunch of Decathalon resellers in India + flipkart stocks a bunch of things too. There's also http://happyearth.in/store/ These guys started recently and have been doing some very good work. The owner is on BZ too. Plus you can always order from the UK online stores if you can't find something in India.

that was just an ballpark figure for an analogy!
the link in the above post-happyearth.in has kool stops for like ~700rs.a friend uses these on his modded hero hawk.its extensively modified, with the whole brake setup changed so the brake pads fit.
I wouldnt advise it though.
Please do understand, unless you know what you are doing, you will be in trouble.i tried to mod a hercules AXN,to save a few bucks and because it was fashionable at that time.I loved having my brakes squeal, was sort of like an entry with a bang, but have had quite a few spills on it,which needed stitches and weeks of rest.
