Big companies which go out of their way to help customers

In my opinion most companies are out there to grab our money. Dell, Samsung, Apple, Microsoft, Sony, etc. have taken some really customer unfriendly decisions. From overcharging for accessories, to not owning up to their mistakes, and even shipping outright defective stuff, each of them has shown that they can go to new lows. This got me thinking, is there any big company out there which actually has gotten to the top because of their business ethics and consumer friendliness?

Airtel Broadband. And then they lost it.

Maruti. And they continued to loot people.

Hutch. And then they sold themselves.

^^ I think he asked for companies who are customer friendly :D

Not companies like Failtel etc who just say "Mujhe mil jo jaaye thoda paisa..thoda paisa" and they do it by looting us. Fook airtel. Fook Bharati. Hope airtel dies.

^ Oh well, he was asking for companies which got to the top by doing some good.

Though I don't like Apple much but still I would rate Apple as a company which cares for its consumers.

they all start well with all ethics and everything , but after a while when they build some reputation and customer base , some kind of complacency sets in i guess , coz they take consumer for granted , and they go slowly down the drain

Logitech. Not a huge company but almost all Logitech support stories I have heard are positive.

And then companies like Nintendo and Intel almost never seem to have support issues. If they do, they are dealt with efficiently.

Hell, I just bought a Game Boy Color (originally released in 1998). $15 of ebay. Takes two AA batteries and still gives me 10+ hours battery life. Works perfectly.

There were japanese companies which became famous for their reliability and long life.
(one i remember which were awesome in their time national,panasonic,hitachi..)
they inturn were so reliable that they never bought anything new and due to low sales they ran out /sold their business.

Here is something in common between both those companies, Google "<company> claims Liquid damage" and check how many people either of these companies are ripping off of their warranty by arbitrarily quoting liquid damage on anything that is electronic and has a display. Not just Nokia or Apple, but Samsung and HTC as well. I think the technicians are being trained to do this whenever the RMA is costly for the company.

Frankly speaking the OP is on a wild goose chase. There is no such company that gives importance to customer satisfaction over their profits. The very essence of providing good customer service is to somehow manage to make more money than they lost because of the customer service. If they stand to loose a lot because of good customer service, they would rather not provide it at all depending on the case. Ultimately the goal is to make profits and even customer satisfaction is just a balancing act on their way to maximize profits. There will be users who think they have been given good service, but there will also be at least a few people who are not given good service because that ends up being costly for the company. So there will always be at least a few dissatisfied people what ever the company is.
