ESRB RATING: M (Mature)

RELEASE DATE: August 21, 2007

Going beyond "run and gun corridors," "monster-closet AIs" and static worlds, BioShock creates a living, unique and unpredictable FPS experience. After your plane crashes into icy uncharted waters, you discover a rusted bathysphere and descend into Rapture, a city hidden beneath the sea. Constructed as an idealistic society for a hand picked group of scientists, artists and industrialists, the idealism is no more. Now the city is littered with corpses, wildly powerful guardians roam the corridors as little girls loot the dead, and genetically mutated citizens ambush you at every turn. Take control of your world by hacking mechanical devices, commandeering security turrets and crafting unique items critical to your very survival. Upgrade your weapons with ionic gels, explosives and toxins to customize them to the enemy and environment. Genetically modify your body through dozens of Plasmid Stations scattered throughout the city, empowering you with fantastic and often grotesque abilities. Explore a living world powered by Ecological A.I., where the inhabitants have interesting and consequential relationships with one another that impact your gameplay experience. Experience truly next generation graphics that vividly illustrate the forlorn art deco city, highlighted by the most detailed and realistic water effects ever developed in a video game. Make meaningful choices and mature decisions, ultimately culminating in the grand question: do you exploit the innocent survivors of Rapture...or save them?

The hours spent playing this masterpiece were the perfect encapsulation of why videogaming is such a favourite waste of time for so many of us. Thrilling, terrifying, moving, confusing, amusing, compelling, and very very dark. BioShock isn't simply the sign of gaming realising its true cinematic potential, but one where a game straddles so many entertainment art forms so expertly that it's the best demonstration yet how flexible this medium can be. It's no longer just another shooter wrapped up in a pretty game engine, but a story that exists and unfolds inside the most convincing and elaborate and artistic game world ever conceived.

There is art here, despite what many would say isn't possible with games, from Roger Ebert to game designers like Hideo Kojima... BioShock stands as a monolithic example of the convergence of entertaining gameplay and an irresistibly sinister, engrossing storyline that encompasses a host of multifaceted characters. This is an essential gaming experience.

Never has the medium been used as a storytelling device in such a beautiful and engaging way, and never have we been drawn so deeply into a gameworld. Long live Rapture.

A dark and astonishing masterpiece...I spend my career, and my gaming life, waiting for a moment when a game just astonishes me, when I can't believe what I'm seeing, what I'm doing.

This must be the game of the year I believe, the average rating for this game from all websites stands out to be 99% in Gamerankings website, thats something!! This is the kind of game, I believe I have been waiting for a very long time after playing HalfLife 1 and System Shock 2 way back in 1999/2000.

Cant people make more games with brighter backgrounds...im tired of playing most of the games in the dark..farcry was a nice change..next up crysis seems to be the only game which is mostly set out in the open..oh stalker too..

totally agreed ... even i love bright open games ... the same old gloomy dark corridors make me wanna puke ... :(

Far Cry was cool ... HL2 was also great, Crysis will be awesome :)

Got the PC Demo. Runs pretty well on the 8800GTS 320. 4xAA 1440x900WS. It is dark but certainly worth a look. Some of the visual are fantastic such as running water and gruesome special effects. Definitely some shocking themes in the demo. Haven't finished it, will wait till night when everything is dark to get the full effect. :)

Any idea what are the system requirements for this game?

Would it run on a E6300, 1GB, 7600GS ?

I have a 7600GS card and Bioshock does run on it but you will have to turn the settings and/or resolution down a bit to get acceptable performance. 1440x900 w/o AA (other settings at HIGH) and it runs a bit sluggish. It should improve at 1024x768 and lower.

I've been playing the demo at 1280*1024 , maxed (ultra high :P) ,... fps avg. around 35+ ... minor dips to 25 , but occasionally , probably driver related coz nvidia already released a new driver :P , so it seems obvious ..

My deduction from the demo is the game will be great. . the environment is awesome ,, sound too (though it didn't feel complete :() ... the gameplay is really immersive ..

*NOTE* ... at one point of time , loads of "things" will be charging at you .. u can either take them out by stunning them with a bolt , then using the gun etc. ... or if u notice carefully , a portion of the ground is wet , and u can simply use the same bolt option to hit the water and everyone over that water will be down for good .. This is definitely a nice way to play the game .. should put in a good amount of fun ... :D ... can't wait for the full game !!

*UPDATE* for 8 series , AA will work with the latest beta drivers from nvidia ... donno about the 7 series though [:P] ... also , i think u'll have to run the game in dx10 mode for AA to work ..

Has anyone downloaded/bought the full game (i think it got released yesterday)....

I am hoping that my rig will be able to play the game at decent FPS with 1280 settings :p... Almost the same config as deathvirus_me except for the graphics which in my case is a X1900XT
