A bit of bad news for those with Wide Screens.

http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11658

It seems like 2k games has not given proper wide-screen support in Bioshock. Though wide-screen resolutions are available, they have taken a shortcut approach. The FOV remains the same as that of non-ws resolutions. So for WS users, a part of the view is cut off. Hope its fixed soon...

Edit: Oops.. They have already made a WS Hack for Bioshock. :P

Well finished the demo yesterday. This is the best game I've played since Deus Ex. I'm dying to buy the full version once its out. I ran it in Vista for the DX10 effects. There was a bit of low fps issues at 1680x1050, 4xAA maxed on an 8800 ultra. I need an SLI board soon so that my other ultra can be put to use.

Hey even i played on 8800 ultra @ 1680x1050 all settings maxed out ... and i didnt find any fps issues. I mean it was smooth as hell.

BTW... what is the in game command to view FPS ????

I guess our definitions of smooth are different :P. Use fraps to check FPS. Also did you use XP or Vista? There's a big performance drop when using DX10.

Yeah i played on directx 10 and yes you are right, our definitions are quite different as i was used to playing games on my geforce 6200 till now :(

Infact i have finished lots of games on 10-15 FPS :) ... so the ULTRA is like godlike for me :)

Thanks

I downloaded and played the demo yesterday.

Settings I used are 1680 x 1050 resolution and all settings at max. DX10 surfaces was off since I had a Radeon 1900XT and Force Global Lighting was off.

I got about 35~40 FPS on average, peaked between 55~60 FPS and lowest was 28 FPS (which was for an instant).

This game is very much playable at high resolution even with a previous gen high end card.

The gameplay is superb. There are multiple ways to do the same thing. Me too waiting for this game to release in India. Already asked my Local Planet M dealer to get it for me if he can source it. :)

I am hoping that my rig will be able to play the game at decent FPS with 1280 settings :p... Almost the same config as deathvirus_me except for the graphics which in my case is a X1900XT

I suppose my above comments answers your questions. :)

Is it available in retail in India as i don't wanna download a 6GB file via steam...

Also i read that retail version only lets you install the game twice on your comp... thats definitely a downer ...

Whats that about the two time install limit. :S I didnt hear anything about that. That would be a major reason for people not to purchase the game. The steam version is a bit costly for purchase in India going by the Indian prices of the titles.

Anyways, this seems to be not yet available in India yet. the SAARC edition should most probably be published by Milestone. I have mailed them, but got no response. :(

yeah switch is correct....just two times .....

PC owners are reporting problems installing the game - if you install the game more than twice, users say, the Bioshock activation process locks you out. This will happen if you fail to uninstall the game before removing it - for example, if you just format your system and reinstall Windows. This is because 2K games has contracted Securom to manage 'activations' for the game - more than two activations and, like Windows, the software starts getting antsy.

2K said that "if you use the game as you normally do, you won't notice this at all". Obviously, 2K's spokeswoman has never met crazy hardware enthusiast people. More details on the workaround for that are here. µ

Well, I believe u need atleast 768MB of RAM, thats wat I remember wen I ran Rainbow 6 Vegas in that much amount of RAM which uses same unreal 3 engine!!

if u can download the game its worth that mch of effort i mean 3 of u guys can split up and download bit by bit it works i do the same with my friends and its better this way cuz u save bandwidth and u cant play the game until either one of you get the remaining part of the game :P

^Same question : X2 4000+ @ 2.7GHz, 1GB 920 5-5-5-15, 7600GS ?

Heres the Min and Recommended System Requirements

Minimum System Requirements:

CPU: Pentium 4 2.4GHz Single Core processor

System RAM: 1GB

Video Card: Direct X 9.0c compliant video card with 128MB RAM (NVIDIA 6600 or better/ATI X1300 or better, excluding ATI X1550).

Sound Card: 100% direct X 9.0c compatible sound card

Hard disc space: 8GB free space
Recommended System Requirements:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo processor

System RAM: 2GB

Video card:
DX9: Direct X 9.0c compliant video card with 512MB RAM (NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GT or better)
DX10: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 or better

Sound Card: Sound Blaster® X-Fi™ series (Optimized for use with Creative Labs EAX ADVANCED HD 4.0 or EAX ADVANCED HD 5.0 compatible sound cards)

The Min system requirements state a 2.4 GHz Processor, 1 GB RAM and a nVidia GeForce 6600 or better GPU.

So faheem, your processor and GPU barely match the Min specs and RAM is 512 mb short. I dont think Bioshock will be able to run, and even if it runs at a very low resolution, you are not goona enjoy it much.

Keane, I guess you should be able to run the game at low resolution and medium quality settings.

Before playing the demo, I had hardly expected the game to run at high resolutions on my 1900XT. But my card handled it well enough to be playable. Still the game brought by card to its knees and there are very few games currently that can do that. The UT engines have always been very scalable and the same goes for UT3 Engine. But we can hardly expect it to run well on two generations old hardware.
