Panasonic has begun their “pilot production†of 50Gb Blu-ray discs out in their Torrance, California factory. This dual layer disc is the first of many capacities that Blu-ray may see (because manufactures can add additional data layer). We know that Sony is working on octuple layer discs with a 200GB capacity.

Fox filmed Entertainment is one of the latest companies to officially express its support for the Blu-ray. The company had said for a long time that it considered Blu-ray to be the future victor of the format wars, but this time it really puts in it’s official support). Fox officially stated, according to gamemag.ru, that it won’t support the rival HD-DVD format, because the Blu-ray is “not only the best technology, but also the safest format of them all.â€

Pioneer will be the first to bring a PC-based Blu-ray disc drive to market with its BD1.5. We don’t have much more information than the fact that it will be internal and shipping sometime next year.
