Hey fellow members

I have been using Samsung Galaxy SII. Now I am bored with the handset and want to get a different phone. What are my options and which phones do you recommend?

PS: Budget is not a constraint but I am not going to buy the Iphone 4S. Having used 3G and 3GS, I hate iOS now.

TIA

devv

^^ N9 is not officially sold in India with warranty.

I am sure you can find it in Mumbai, issue will be that you will get dealer warranty only.

N9 looks like a great alternative to the mainstream brands and their OS's

If you need a juicy new hardware, you are out of luck.

There are 4 phones one should buy
  1. iPhone 4S
  2. SGS2
  3. Note
  4. Razr (Vanilla or MAXX)

Out of these 2 and 3 are the same UI except for 3 having the humongous screen.

Razr would be a bit different as its still android.

Since you do not want to go for iOS, 1 is out.

As for windows phones, I got bored in a half hour at the airport while browsing it
<

Maybe you should wait for the next batch of new phones which include the likes of SGS3.

Better try Nokia 1100 till then and play snake

Razr max is an lte version available in us only under at&t if u want get a jailbreaked unlocked maxx amazon.us has a gr8 deal for it but still it may damage u around 45,50k without custom and all that stuff if u want an totally different xperience go for nokia n9 meego os it's an awesum device

Maxx is not available on AT&T network but Verizon. It is a CDMA device. No use in buying unlocked version. It wont work in India.

is n9 available in india?

N9 is not available in India.

The best option for you would be waiting for GS3, unless you plan to ditch the phone you buy now in 4-5 months. If you plan to change your phone in next 4-5 months and buy GS3, try a windows phone like Lumia 800. You will have a refreshing experience. Apart from Processor and 1080p videos, everything else is Juicy enough. And you cant compare processors of WP7 devices with Android or Symbian with WP7. And since budget is not a constraint, get a good 3G data plan and WP7 will rock you.

^ guys i am a android user since the past couple of years and the phones i have owned were desire, desire HD & SGSII. I have tried custome ROMs on all these phones. I tend to get bored with a phone in a few months and thats why over the past few years I have been changing phones every 5-6 months....

Therefore I am looking for something that will atleast keep me interested for a few months.

Nokia 1100?? I thot this phone was EOL'd....neva mind Sammy Guru is there still

#devvfata1ity Pray, tell me what are you are bored of exactly and what are you looking for in a phone? In my experience, at this time, you will find pretty much the same stuff on all mobile platforms. Also, all your previous android handsets offer only marginal upgrades over the other. It boggles the mind that manufacturers churn out all these models with little or no difference among them. I actually praise Apple for only updating once every year.

That being said, get a meego device as mentioned before. Also, iOS is not a bad platform for getting things done (although, I must say you never mentioned what you plan to do with the device). But the best thing would be to stay put and see what this year brings us as the current devices offer little over what you have.

Read the OP, I was using IOS since 2007 and then switched over to android in 2010. Coming to your point that android has useless product diversification across the price spectrum that offers little to no improvement, then my friend apple is also guilty of pushing only margnal upgrades each year. Usually the significant models from Apple turn up every alternate product cycle refresh.

Addressing your second concern that I havent mentioned my usage pattern, ahh well..its a mixed bag really. It involves a bit of music, a bit of videos, lots of calls & texts, significant amount of browsing and some games once in a while.

I shuttle a lot between cities and thus depend on my phone to whither away time in between.

Agreed they have marginal upgrades every year but at least it's only oncece every years. And the 3gs -> 4 wasn't marginal in any regard.

Now that you have mentioned the usage, my point remains valid. For all your needs, the sg2 would suffice. As for purely playing around with hardware/new os, I think the galaxy nexus could be your choice but most people (even on amazon) vouch for the sg 2 over the nexus.

IMO, there is no other device in the market at this time that beats the GS 2 hands down. So even if you have the money, I'd suggest waiting for a bit till "the next best" cellphone hits the market.

My GF wont be happy with that suggestion

Well I admit 3GS->4 was the real update but 2G->3G->3Gs were only incremental in nature.

One thing you are failing to understand is that I need to get my hands on some new hardware, does not matter if it doesnt add anything over the SGSII. I am not looking at an upgrade, I am simply looking at at different hardware experience (software too, will be a bonus).

So now I have decided on getting either of the following:

1. Galaxy Note (White)

2. Droid RAZR

3. Nokia Lumia 710/ Omnia W

4. Xoom 3G/Any Android Tab + dumb phone

Which to go for?

Even me too after waiting for N9.. got RAZR in December...but got bored finally (although its a hell lot super super awesome n even far more sexier then kareena's size zero waistline) so just waiting for first SONY XPERIA S (march) then will go with SGS3 (june/july or i dont know when) on its launch..

my point is simple that you can never satisfy your hunger for power and feature if you are in Android field, just my 2 cents.

if u want an hardware change then go for asus prime tablet first quad core processor, quad core mobile will be also launched by htc soon but atleast it will take 6 months to see a quadcore in indian market(unless u know someone in us
<
)but hardware wise asus prime is the best option though its an wifi version only

Omnia W is quite good. Has 3.7 inch AMOLED screen and standard WP7 hardware. Looks nice too. Go for it.

You can also check Lumia 710. Its screen is not as good as Omnia W, but good enough with Clear Black LCD. But you get some exclusive Nokia contents like Maps with voice guided navigation.

Regarding Nokia N9

Not available officially, but It is available in some black markets/grey markets:

Like national market in bangalore / Fancy market in kolkata,Ofcourse no warranty. You are on your own as soon as you walk out of the shop.

Btw have you considered BB? BB generally don't have many functions , but they way you move around in their layered menus you do get a feeling as if you are doing a lot then what you are actually doing...It is something like Motorola used to be in 2003... Good change from android and then you can go back to android 6 months later..

Also nothing beats a blackberry in basic functions except maybe a series 40 Nokia.

Would have suggested the BB 9790 but reading/Hearing reports of dismal battery life in the OS 7 devices,9780 might be a good buy.

Also If you have not used any HTC sense devices before, Sensation will be a good experience..

Btw would have loved to be in your position... People getting bored of True android flagships,,
<

^ he he...

Yes my past android devices included HTC devices such as desire and desire HD. Come to think of it a BB bold 9780/90 aint a bad option. Whats the best price on that currently?
