BRINK - Discussion Thread

Re: BRINK - Game Discussion

BRINK release date bumped up. Set to release a Week early as opposed to it's earlier scheduled date.

Bethesda said today it is pushing up the release date of Brink by a week in both North America and Europe. The game will now ship on May 10 in NA instead of May 17. Europe's ship date is now May 13 instead of May 20.

"Production wrapped on Brink earlier than we planned and we didn't see any reason to keep gamers from getting their hands on this highly anticipated game as soon as it was ready," said Pete Hines, VP of PR and Marketing for Bethesda Softworks.

"It's apparent from the tremendous reaction so far that people are eager to jump online and play, and if we can make that happen earlier - we're going to."

Glad to see games like these even exist, in a game world where everyone one of them is a cod clone :|

Re: BRINK - Game Discussion

Nice to see a game that supports FREE dedicated servers. :)

Couple of years ago, this was the norm for PC games. Lately it seems to have become a rarity.

Hope someone sets up a decent Server(s) for this in India. Would buy it for sure if that happens....

Re: BRINK - Game Discussion

Hopes are down now. Game being distributed by Bethesda, so no official release in India for the PC (only PS3 and 360), and there's no way i am going to buy this for 50$

Re: BRINK - Game Discussion

If its released in India for PC between 699-999 I would bite. No way am I paying more than that for it. $50 purchases are reserved for games like BC2 and BF3! ;)

Also need to be Indian Dedicated Servers up and running for it. Otherwise whats the point?

Buying a (primarily) MP game is pointless if you cant play anywhere worthwhile because "Country Filters" are in effect and your country is not on the "allowed" list. You end up having to play on servers where your ping is 400+ and everyone else has 20. Not really fun....

Yeah its not gonna be released in India man. Maybe only we can buy it during the steam sales *if* it drops below 20$, but even then, what's the point gonna be, we won't have any low pinged servers.

Re: BRINK - Game Discussion

If it's not getting released in Singapore/ Indonesia, then IMO no point buying it.
After that, only option left will be Jap/Korean and AUS servers, Jap servers might give <200 pings

Same situation as Blops. Jap servers for me giving 150-170. And that is quite playable.

But one thing I do not understand, Why less love for PC community?

Not a good idea to depend on Sing servers. Some Sing providers have region restrictions in place that disallow Indians.

The good thing is the Brink DS is FREE - anyone can download it and host a server. Hopefully someone with half decent b/w will setup one in India.

After that will come the hardest part - getting people to actually JOIN the server...... :p

If it is a success, it'll end up like TF2. TF2 has SO MANY Indian players yet no one plays in India or hosts an indian server and plays here. Hosting a TF2 server is also free :p

Re: BRINK - Game Discussion

^^ TF2 new update, replay recording, Plus the "SAXXY AWARDS" for many categories of replays. You've gotta check it out.

BTW, BRINK UPDATE:

Brink Will Have Over 100 Quadrillion Unique Characters

With a week to go until Brinks release, Bethesda are moving on from tutorials to stats as they announce interesting stats about the game. The first statistic to be released is that Brink allows for the creation of over 100 quadrillion (100,000,000,000,000,000) unique characters! Check the stats out below:

EDIT: Stupid game got leaked on x360

Re: BRINK - Game Discussion

DON't BUY BRINK : yet (PLEASE READ all you eager buyers)

My advice right now is to stay away from the game. The version of the game I played is a mess, and not worth your money. That being said, keep an eye on the forums, check to see if reviews are updated as the game is patched, and then make a decision. Sadly, I'll be traveling starting on Wednesday, and the week after that I'll be out of the office taking part in E3 preview events filled with games I can't talk about. It's going to be a good long time before I can download the PC version of the game and tell you what I think.

The copy of the game that went out to reviewers came on a disc, in retail packaging. We were sent the same code that you will buy in the store, but it became obvious that the game wasn't finished. Textures were ugly messes when I played the game, and texture pop-in was a common problem. The visual fidelity of the game world fluctuated madly while playing. Sometimes I had a glimpse of what Splash Damage was aiming for with the game's aesthetics, but more often the technical issues led to a frustratingly uneven experience.

The netcode was even worse. I don't play with the developers when reviewing an online game—I've explained my distaste for those sessions elsewhere—but I'm friends with a number of other reviewers who had access to the game. When we tried to go a co-op game together, the game collapsed in on itself. The framerate was halved, and the game play often stuttered. It was completely unplayable, and this was the result of adding two other players. I can't imagine what a full server would feel like. The game would also kick players off the server seemingly at random. It was a frustrating, unfinished mess, and I gave up trying to get an accurate picture of the online portion of the game after an hour or so.

Why we're not reviewing Brink, and why you shouldn't buy it (yet)
