BSNL 3G Mobile Service Now In 241 Cities In India

^^Thanks to BSNL.

They launched services in places like bihar, madhurai etc leaving cities like Bangalore, hyderabad!

I don't know why but they(BSNL) SCREWUP each and everything they do! They should be awarded for that.

3G was supposed to be started in Bangalore in April 2009 which tself was considerd to be screwed up and late.

But then we are talking abt BSNL here, so they decided to show that nobody can screw things more than them....and the RESULT: They decided to delay it by 1 year!

I feel govt should sell BSNL to some private company.

Sorry for bit of OT. But you guys have no idea how much i hate BSNL.

Went to the BSNL exchange this morning and they were very enthusiastic about 3G. They even had a dedicated person who knew all the features well, but he was out for tea/smoke. The other employees were eager to sell the 3G SIM though.

The 1st 3G customer in my exchange was being introduced to the SDE and lots of people had gathered around for the "inauguration".

Got my 3G Prepaid SIM Card today. Awaiting Activation.

Simple Process. Takes about 10 minutes.

1) Go to any BSNL Circle Office
2) Fill up the form + Attest Photo and Address + ID Proof
3) Pick up your 3G USIM card
4) Pay Rs. 59.00
5) Recharge extra
6) Wait 24-48 hours for activation.

Will post results tomorrow.

I too got my connection today, but from what I could gather, they are facing delays with the activation. I hope my phone gets activated before tomorrow, as the Vodafone connect gets turned off the day after.

I'm mainly getting this phone for the data, as I cannot lose the vodafone number. Is there a different recharge voucher for the data, seperate from the voice?

I got a free 3G SIM coupon along with my landline bill. I dont have to pay the initial Rs59 to get my SIM. Guys with BSNL landline better wait for this months bill to get their coupon. The coupon is valid till 31st March or stocks last.

FIRST POST ON TE FROM BSNL BANGALORE's 3G NETWORK!!!

It got activated in about 8 hours which is amazing considering I was told by a government company that is takes 24-48 hours.

This is my first ever prepaid card, so this is all still kind of new for me, but anyways I'm sure the following instructions should help prepaid newbies like me who have got this only for data.

1) Guys who have gotten the 3G SIM Card, keep calling any number from your phone and pretty soon you'll find out that it has been activated. They don't send you any message to intimate you that it's been activated.

2) After that, get an Easy Recharge for exactly Rs. 120.

3) DO NOT get a top up for that amount. Make sure it is a an EASY RECHARGE ONLY!

What kind of speed am I getting you ask?

Never thought I'd see the day when I'd be using 3G in India let alone getting speeds higher than most wired broadband connections. It's AMAZING guys! Youtube has never been better on my TP2! Can't wait to see all this on my HD2 which can't get here fast enough.

WTF!!! that's faster than my home broadband connection. Congrats buddy congrats!!!

Thanks bro. I know what you mean!

BTW, for some weird reason, I'm unable to do a voice call and use my data connection at the same time (on my phone... not via internet sharing to the desktop).

Any clues?

Good speed. Didnt banglore get free trial period before the launch, here(punjab, hoshiapur) we got like 4 months to enjoy those speeds without paying a penny.

Guys, I think you've gotten it wrong.

1) EVDO is 3G for CDMA Networks. BSNL GSM 3G is based on HSPA.

2) 3G is designed to allow simultaneous Voice and Data connections unlike slot based 2.5 (GPRS) and 2.75 (EDGE) technologies.

It should be working but it's not. CC confirmed that there is problem on their end and that it should be rectified soon.

I actually heard that some TEST-SIMs were available, but that was only for BSNL Tech Staff. We didn't have any trial periods like what you mentioned available to us.
