BSNL home 500 looks good. speeds of upto 2mbps from 2:00am to 8:00 am.

What are the kind of speeds users are getting? Are you getting good speeds?

Or is it better to go for 512kbps ul at 1350/-?

What speeds are guys on 256 kbps unlimited getting?

While I was on 2mbps night unlimited, I only ever got max 120k but that's because I stay outside the 5km radius from my exchange. Most users get anywhere between 180-220k.

On 256k unlimited, it's 30k on http downloads and 27k on torrents.

Speed is never the issue with BSNL and neither are frequent downtimes. It's just the sheer hell their CC subjects you to if your net goes down.

yes i have the same plan
using it for past 2 yrs
this is the best atleast iin punjab
torrents speeds used to be previously around 220-240 KBps around a year back
but now these have decreased to around 120-140KBps max around 160-170 if the torrent has good seeders.
rapidshare frees speeds are around 30KBps
i used a premium acc of my friend for a day . speed was around 220-230 consitently
never used 512kbps plan.
it basically depends in ur type of usage
if u leech from torrents then 500 is good
but if u surf most of the time with not much downloading then go for u/l

Noida User

Connection: 256 Kbps Unltd

Speed On Torrent Currently : >28kBps

Rapidshare DL: >28 (generally, it the server aint loaded ie)

Problem Area: Wen u need to Speak to CC :)

As mentioned before.. no issues with speeds whatsoever.

Been using BSNL since 2005.. never had to blush in front of Airtel Users cuz of speeds.

256 kbps u/l speeds are around 28-32KBps

a friend of mine has that

good for surfing day n night not for downloading

moreover it costs 750+taxes (830)

not my cup of tea

if u want u/l plan only go for connect 444 or 666 plan

i have the night ul plan..... and it works great for me

i get a download speed of 180-200 kbps and upload speed of around 50 kbps (when i am not downloading anything). the only problem i face is the 2.5 Gb download limit for the day surfing...no matter what i do i can't seem to stay in that bandwidth.....overall it is a good buy with some occasional hiccups...

:)

I stay abt 300 metres from the telephone exchange. WIll that almost guarantee me good speeds?

How much do peeps having night unlimited end up downloading in those six hours?

I used to download around 2.4GB in the 6 hours of NU period. That's 3-4 dvd rips daily.

People who stay close to the exchange and get full speeds download around 4GB.

Now, the option is this:

1). Tata Indicom Wimax - Pros: Supposedly professional service. Tata group is quite decent. Not too many downtimes. MY area is already connected.

Cons: Expensive. 512kbps for 1500/- + taxes.

2)> BSNL Home 500. Pros: Speeds. Exchange is close to my house.

Cons: Everything else! Reliability, downtimes, customer service, time they will take to come and install the bloody connection.

AVOID BSNL 500! I had a nightmare after they billed me incorrectly for 2 months.

UL1350 FTW! I stay close to the exchange too, excellent speeds and haven't had a downtime for almost 8 months now, touchwood!

get bsnl combo 500C or 500C+ plan depending on ur daily billed download limit.

Disconnect and reconnect without mistake (can be automated) at 2am and 8am and u are least likely get billing issues.

I am using the same plan for yrs now, not a single billing problem. Only problem with me is bad/ worst speeds on RS. But torrents are good enough most of the times.

And i belong to such people, distance between exchange and my house diagonally falls under 100M range.

I am downloading 4.5GB every night on HOME500 :hap2: Take care of timings 2AM to 8AM otherwise BSNL gonna charge you bomb in bill, there are many guidelines to manage 2AM to 8AM BSNL night unlimited downloads.

Key to success is disconnect at 1.50AM and reconnect at 2.10AM use 2AM to 8AM download scheduler in uTorrent.

Make schedule tasks for system as...

1.Close you downloading client software at 7.50AM

2.Disconnect Internet at 7.52AM

3.Shutdown System at 7.55AM

Take care of monthly download limit 2.5GB

I never faced any problem with connection regarding speeds.Well i dont need BSNL CC at all :P

stick to UL plans. switched to them after tons of billing issues.

now i get ~29K on 256k unlimited

hakuna matata :D

Nikhil reliability and downtime wise no ISP in India can beat BSNL right now.

Only con is that their CC is little rough to go through but once you reach nodal engineer he will be polite and helpfull.

I have been using BSNL broadband eversince it was launched here in my area in Surat, and no downtimes except once municipal corporation dug up wires with road :P.

Which plan to chose is dependent upon you, many people prefer 500 with NU while many prefer 512 UL. I personally dont prefer night time startup and shutdown scripts so I will prefer 512 UL if had a choice.

C'mon Man ..

u gettin so worried over nothing....

Choose and Get UL plan by BSNL.

All this talk abt banging ur head with CC will be ONLY IF U GOT BILL PROBLEMS

Solution: Get Unltd plan

i dont worry abt the day download limit of 2.5GB ltd IF i urgently need to download heavy file or kill time on Youtube

.. Savy ?

* Now like Greenhorn, i been on UL 256kBps.. get rockin speeds on torrents and good speeds on http ones.

U sound mch worried over something u neednt.

I have used UL1350 before and am now using 500 Combo+ plans

Never faced a billing issue - I use a router to connect / disconnect. There are lots of tutorials on the net on other ways to do this.

I have breached the 2.5GB day barrier though.

Speedtest shows upto 4Mbps but steady state downloads are around 2Mbps

The line is reliable. The Customer care is not a problem. I now book a fault against the telephone no and the lineman is at my place within an hour during the working day.

There are some other ways to book complaints but they dont work very well - no one takes ownership - and are best avoided. Rarely need to call them though as the line is reliable.

Speed is no issue with BSNL, i m using it since 3 yrs . getting arnd 100--200kb for torrents. it is definitely a step up from my earlier vsnl connection . And if u r doing night downloading then u can always use a timer ,say to disconnect @ 8 so bill vl not be an issue.
