Bsnl increases upload speed..

neat! i too am getting the higher upload speed. i had limited my torrent upload to 5 KBps now I set it to 25 KBps (200 kbps) and its working!

i hope this is not just a temporary misconfiguration which they fix later on :P

edit: I am on the UL 900 plan in Hadapsar, Pune.

This wont affect total bandwidth usage of BSNL much as such since 90% of users have never used torrents and out of those 10% who uses them, mostly do not use private trackers and seed on it.

You'r welcome muna bhai. It took lots of persuasion to make them do that.

Hello Sir,
Thanks for your concern.
My name is Sarosh Doctor,
Telephone No: 2417210
Location: Alto-Porvorim, Goa

I appreciate your offer to help, and for the future you can have some provisions (via divers or software, for example) for users to decide how much bandwidth to allocate to upload and how much for download.
I realize the vast majority of users will download lot more than they upload, but for me I have to upload about 500MB of scanned work quite often, and I cant even upload this from morning to evening.

Thanks once again for your interest.
Regards,
Sarosh.

Dear Sir
kindly refer to your email to CMD BSNL on the above subject. In this context, the following is brought to your notice:
1. The uploading speed in all the limited plans is maximum 768 Kbps as the same is limited by ADSL modem (Asymmetric). The uploading speed can not go beyond this due to technical constraints.
2. Regarding the unlimited plans, in the initial project 2.2, the uploading limit has been restricted to 1:4 i.e. 1/4 th of the downloading speed which comes to 64 Kbps for Plan 900. In the latest rollout in Multiplay, the uploading speed is 256 Kbps along with the downloading limit.
3. I have instructed Broadband Cell to increase the uploading speed to 256 Kbps in the earlier rollouts and the same is likely to be done in the next few days.

Respected Sir / Madam,

The extract of compliance received from GM Goa in r/o Shri Sarosh Doctor regarding upload speed of Broadband is as given below:-

"The case has been examined and it is reported that the subscriber has availed unlimited 900 plan in which maximum bandwidth available is 256 kbps. The upload and download speed of the broadband ratio is 1:4, as such he can get maximum upload speed of 52 kbps.

Subscriber has been advised to take higher plan which provides bandwidth of 2 mbps. But he has refused for higher plan. Customer is satisfied with BSNL Broadband service but feels his current upload speed is very low. It is technically not possible to provide higher upload speed until he agrees to opt for higher plan or he goes for leased line."

This is for your kind information.

When will they actually increase download speeds on Home900UL :( ..

Lol, probably never. 900Rs for 2656kbps is a fair deal I think.
And I was pretty sure that almost 95% of the users will use the extra upload bandwidth for torrents and such. There are only a very small percentate of home users like me who actually desperately needed the faster upload speeds simply to stay in business.

For the past 6 months my situation is such that I have been completing all my work in about 3 hours but waiting 15 hours to upload it. I couldnt bear this any more. I even got a tata usb modem home, but that was totally useless. I sent a strong email explaining to bsnl that they cant assume that upload is not important. Upload is very very important for individuals and small businesses who send their data across on the internet. The absolutely minimum we need is 256kbps simply to keep alive, or else no client in europe will wait 12 hours to receive a 400mb file for ever.

I'm really impressed with bsnl that they took up my matter seriously.

For all the others that will use the increased UL speeds for torrents... enjoy away dudes:)

^Dude, many people were trying to do what you were doing, its the cumalative effort that has resulted in this increase in upload speed, i myself hav written 3 letters and sent hard copies to the local bsnl administration, even they had assured me that they are taking up the case with higher authorities...Probably you happened to hit the correct person with the complain, which many other person on this forum(and digit) hav also tried to do..
So lets not get carried away..everyone in their own way made an effort..:)

Cheer!!!

and wish you good luck for the business..:hap2:

I hit all the top bosses, and I didnt stop hitting until I was sure they understood what I was talking about, lol.
They even phononed me up, and said "it was not technologically possible".
I didnt buy that, and told the top boss that for 900Rs getting an upload speed of 10kbps is bullcrap.

Anyway, I think bsnl is doing a great job, I dont know why some people still talk lowly about bsnl.

Paying your phone bills to bsnl is almost like paying your tax to your nation, it should make you feel proud. BSNL uses our money to spread internet and telephony to the remotest villages of India.
The money the others guys pay companies like airtel or tata is probably used to pay Sharukh Khan's fees for makign the 4-5 new ads they come with every month.

^ yeah we should be proud, We pay for Priety Zinta's ads...:D :D
Woooottt:rofl:

Well, just one ad really. And its only because she is cute we can tolerate that same old stale ad for a year now.
Anyway, i've seen with my own eyes how bsnl brings telephonic facilities to the remotest villages of India, so I am proud of them as an Indian and wish them luck in the future.

Anyway, just wanted to make it clear...
I never really demanded for an UL speed of 256kbps from them.
My intial request to them was to give users the choice to allocate more bandwidth to UL and DL as required. I suggested them to offer some modem drivers, or provide some user control panel on their portal, or some sort of software tool by which users can control bandwith allocation.

This went on for over a month, and I didnt expect anything to happen, so my final suggestion to them was to consider this in their next policy revision that they should give the UL plan users the choice to allocate more bandwidth to UL or DL according to their demand.

Its only when they tried to give me crap then that only ticked me off more. I sent them lengty emails and made 2 points clear:
1) They simply cant assume that upload is not important. Granted that 95% users will not need high uplaod speeds, but there are still 5% users who desperately need higher upload speeds.
2) Paying 900Rs and getting an UL speed of 10kbps is absolute, total, complete crap. It cant be tolerated.
So I never really demanded to increase their UL speed this way, all I asked for the choice to be given to the few select users like me. I even told the boss I would agree to take a connection where the download speed is 8kbps and upload speed is 32kbps.

This is why I am more impressed with bsnl that they have gone one step further and increased the UL of all users to 256kbps.

Lol, no, I was not asking anyone for salutes.
BSNL had to do this some day or another, I just made them actually believe that uploads are important, and that 10kbps is as good as dialup, and not worth 900Rs.

lol, that driver/sw thing is indeed impossible and not feasible...once your sync rates are set at the DSLAM the user simply cant do anything from the remote computer. unlike cable counterpart dsl cannot be capped uncapped from a remote user pc...:)

Thats much better.

For those who dont know, Broar aka Munna Bhai is my old buddy from this site for the past 3-4 years and he mocks my 4 year old computer on yahoo IM and sends me abusive email everytime India defeat Australia in a ODI series... fortuately for me that only happens once in a few decades.
