CPU/Mobo Buying a New Rig in Chennai!

No way man ! DC ram offers much better performance and at stock speeds almost any RAM will do 2.5-3-3-7 which are good timings. Actually DC Ram is just an extra mention, the S939 thrashes S754 in all ways.

A64 has an onboard memory controller hence dual channel memory does not offer a huge boost in performance. Socket 754 is a good budget option, but yes for upgradibility Socket 939 is better. But then again Socket M is around the corner too. Also performance diff between similar rated proccy's is negligible, please provide some proof instead of just getting carried away. Yes Socket 939 provides much better ocing, but at stock speeds an A64 3000+ is as fast as its Socket 754 version.

Here's the price list :

MOBO - ASUS K8N-E : Rs. 4650 and K8N-E Dlx. : Rs. 7050
Proccy - 3000+ Newcastle ( 2 GHz / 512KB L2 Cache ) : Rs. 6900 ( ADA3000AEP4AX , Stepping - LBAZC 0514EPMW )
Vid. Card - Leadtek 6600GT : Rs. 10900 and BIG 6600GT : Rs. 9600
( Go for the BIG as it seems to be an OEM BFG, if things go the way it went for Undertaker )
RAM - Transcend 512*2 : Rs. 4800 ( Infineon Chip : 3-3-3 rating on packaging )
Optical Drive - Sony CD-RW : Rs. 1350 and DVD-ROM : Rs. 1500 ( Approx. , forgot to check )
Monitor - 17" Samsung : Normal ( Rs. 5450 ) and Flat ( Rs. 6750 )
Kbd. & Mouse - Logitech Multimedia Kbd. & Optical Mouse : Rs. 840
Speakers - Creative SBS 2.1 : Rs. 1325
Cabinet - Saw the Lava but didn't ask the price but should be around Rs. 1500.

Asked the guy at the shop and was told that a good Zebronics 400W PSU would cost Rs. 2400.

Gud luck with the rig if he hasn't purchased it yet :hap5: :hap5:

The total of the rig with the Normal 17" monitor and the BIG 6600Gt minus the cabinet and PSU comes to just under 37000. So if he can expand the budget, I think he could get a good rig.

BTW, these rates r from Delta Peripherals at Nakoda Plaza in Ritchie Street.

Leadtek 6600GT : Rs. 10900
I think this can be had for cheaper through some place in Spencer Plaza, somewhere just under 10K.

Transcend 512*2 : Rs. 4800 ( Infineon Chip : 3-3-3 rating on packaging )
Timings arent all too good. Hynix would be a better bet, especially after the stuff Rockyme managed to pull off with it :D

Saw the Lava but didn't ask the price but should be around Rs. 1500.
Its about 1.3K including the PSU. Minus the PSU it comes to about 1K.

Thats quite a lot!
Zebronics has 2 types of PSU's basically - their standard ones, and their "server level" ones. The server level PSU's are supposed to have better build quality and are slightly more expensive, but the highest I've heard these quoted for was 1400.
On a more interesting note, the Zebronics are made by a company called L&C - Powersafe guys will know this is the same brand that manufactures the Powersafe PSU's as well ;)

Yo delhiboy, didn't any of u notice it ? I forgot to add the HDD !!! A Seagate 160 G costs Rs. 4300, 80 G - Rs. 2800 and 40 G - Rs. 2400.
