Buying a PS3, need help

Hi,

Im going to buy a PS3 40gb. Deciding between importing it from the US (400$ ~ 16k rs) and buying it in India with warranty. I wanted to know :

a. If I import it from US, and it dies, will Sony India repair it for a fee?
b. If I buy from India with warranty, I would want to get a 2-3 year warranty. Which shops give an option to buy an extended warranty?
c. What is the current lowest price for the PS3 with warranty in India?
d. Is it worth it to import from the US and save 5-6k rs, and take the risk of it dying?

I suggest u buy it frm india locally with warranty.
I guess croma(mumbai) offers 2 yrs extended warranty...not sure.
PS3 40 gb GT5 pack will cost u arnd 24k. 1 yr warranty.
Donno abt the other questions mate.

a. I don't think that'll be the case. Get in touch with Sony CC Dept. and get it confirmed.
b. Croma has extended warranty for an additional 750/- Rs. Most other retailers have the standard 1 year warranty.
c. It's around 23.7k to 24k with the standard 1yr warranty.
d. That's your call !

Can you please give me some more information about this. Did he buy it online or in a store? And by Hong Kong warranty do you mean that it has to be shipped back to hong kong for it to get replaced/repaired?
Also, I've heard that Sony India's customer service is very poor. Is this true?
 
Yes, u will hav to ship it back to hong kong to get it replaced.
I guess the ps3 available in hong kong are NTSC versions.

In India, we have the PAL version.

So I emailed the guys at Croma and asked them the price for the 40gb model. They say its 24990 for both the gt5 bundle and the non-gt5 bundle. What I want to know is, do different Croma outlets have different prices? Can I get it for lesser than that in a particular Croma outlet?

(I'm going to buy from Croma only since they have the 2yr extended warranty)
 
24,990/- is the official price of ps3 in India. My ps3 has got the same price tag printed on it. But different vendors offer different prices....my vendor sold it to me for 24k.

Ppl here claim they get it for 23k n stuff.....but i dont think its possible to get it for less than 24k unless u get some good discount coz u might b knowin the dealer.

Am in the States right now.. it's for $400 (Rs. 17,000) here. The 7k difference (and the low percentage of hardware failure) has me almost convinced of getting it from here.

Does anyone here use it with LCD monitors? how is the picture quality? I don't have a HDTV so thinking of going that route.

I was in your position a week back.. but now Ive decided to go the safe way and buy it from India :)

i got mine for 23750rs. i got it through my dealer. gt5 bundle.

gta4 bundle is available atm for around 25.5k
 
Hmm the only thing is that I can probably get the ps3 + gta4 + MGS4 for about 20k total here. So that's like a saving of 8.5K over buying the gta4 bundle and MGS4 in India.
 
Hey guys any place where PS3 is cheaper than Croma,had been there the price quoted was Rs 24990/- and the GTA one for Rs 26990

b.dunno.. but not sony world...even some do please ask specific qns as what is the nature of the warranty.
c.22k..always buy the latest sku....the latest one is GTA pack

a) No chance. They may give you software support. But definitely no hardware support.

b) Not sure, but Croma in Mumbai?

c) About 22k

d) Factor in that $399 is the price before tax. So the final price would be about $433 (Rs. 19,000). So the price difference is only 3K or so. So not worth it. For a 13.5% discount you would be foregoing warranty.
