if getting something that expensive get in touch with ppl like shakensoul, will get you great discounts :) shud be available around 65k min or even lower ;)

:) The config is quite okay....however as suggested get in touch with the TE members who are providing discounts...The price seems to be on the higher side

Dude y do u require 4gb of memory .. Bty did it ever occur to you that a 6 cell battery would so totallty suck with ur config .. try getting a 9 cell ..

Thank you for the reply guys :)

@techie_007 & Raj, I forgot to mention in first post, in fact, i'll be getting it for 52k :) .....of course thru EPP.

@chIlD_bEaR Any problem with the config, if i get 4gb ram? compatibility issues? Coz i'll be using the lappy for crysis, COD4, etc too.
9-cell battery will cost another 8K more, totalling 90K, so i thought i'll buy
that battery later when the prices drop!

@Raj, buddy, can you suggest me a better config than above one pls?

hehe..then the pricin is sweet :D

I'd recommend the WLED screen for the extended battery life u'll get. They have a option for 3gb too, na? That should be better as the extra 1gb would go to waste on a 32bit OS.

Also, want to pay extra for just a software (Advanced HD)?

@naga.,.. WLED is an option only on the 1330..

nd like naga said.. the extra 1 gig is gonna be wasted on a 32bit OS.... just like the advanced HD audio sw is pointless.

@Naga & Stalker, So max ram supported (optimally) by 32 bit os is only 3 gb?
i thought, anyway vista needs 2 gb ram minimun, so why not go for 4gb, making it future proof for another 2 yrs.

Also for stuffs like crysis, cod4, etc wud it not be vise to have 4 gb ram?

no 32bit operating system can access more than 3gb of memory. ie; none of the applications can either. if you really wanna go with the 4gig of ram, get vista ultimate.. that ships with a 64bit version.

I'd not go for 4gb ram, if no applications, games can ever access it, i'll stick for 3gb then.

Any other flaw is the config stalker?

you dont need the HD Audio software.. nor do you need to ask them to do the formatting for you... (the disk partitioning) let it come to you in default formatted condition.. you can change it as you please later on.

Thanks a lot Naga, Stalker, and all others for your invaluable inputs.

I've one more doubt - is this Processor: T8100 OK? Or should i go for a one with higher speed.

Somewere in this forum i'd read about the penryn processors, is this the same one?

Wrong.

It is highly dependent on the OS and the BIOS of your computer. I have seen 4GB with Windows XP accessing 3.25GB (p5n-e sli) and 2.75GB (ip35-pro)

Linux can access 4GB easily even in 32bit mode.

well.. not entirely... i agree i shouldnt have said 'no operating system :P'... however... windows provides a 32bit address space.. simply means that it can address a max of 4gigs.. this 4gigs is not just your physical memory but is also inclusive all the address ranges which have been assigned for various devices.

for eg, lets say you had a system with 3.5gigs of usable space and a 512mb gfx card.. if u were to add another gfx card(for sli/crossfire) with 512 megs of memory.. then the usable physical memory would see a reduction of the same amount.

generally its accepted practice to say that a normal usage machine will have a max of 3gigs physical accessible.

basically.. its fully OS dependent.

Edit.. wahh.. did a wee bit more of reading. its 100% hardware dependent. The linux support mentioned is as a result of PAE... physical address extensions.. basically uses pointers and a lot of shebbang.. (eww.. hate those things which kept poking up in microP programming.. segments nd all.. eww).

PAE is a processor feature. it lets CPU's access upto 64gigs of memory.. however, even with that a single process CANNOT cross 3gigs. and just enabling PAE, whether we wanna use the extended memory or not, will entail a performance hit of somewhere between 6-10% on the cpu. and i am still 100% right wen it comes to Windows :)

+1 for stalker. if u want to be exact, XP will detect 3.25Gb, but i doubt u wanna install an extra Gb just to use 256Mb out of it :P thats why everyone prefers goin for 3Gb only ;)

Note that Vista SP1 (and maybe XP SP3?) will now show you 4GB (or whatever full) RAM in the My Computer properties even tho it still only can access around 3GB :)

Thank you for the input guys, thank you very much. :hap2:

I have some more doubts though :S

I'm currently in Europe, is it wise to get the dell xps from here? it costs more than in india.
My first post was due to the fact, my friend was coming from india, so i'd thought of getting the lappy thru him.

But now i'm confused, does dell india's warranty - complete cover, valid
here in europe?
I'll be here for a year or more..
I'm totally in a dilemma!
