Hi all,

My friend has a Labrador which he says is a cross breed between a Labrador and great dane(not sure if that's correct, please check the pics and tell).she is about 6weeks old and full black in color. now, I am thinking of adopting the cute little puppy:ohyeah:

here are first pics:

First I need know what I am getting into before taking final take. so please help, tell me everything about this breed(is this a good breed?). kind of information every dog owner should know.

I have a Labrador and would recommend it to first timers. Very friendly and sensitive, and easy to train and maintain (At least mine is). Although they get very lazy as they grow up.

u say its 6 weeks old ??? I have seen much healthier Lab Puppies at 4 week's age. It looks more like a Great dane(may be), but definitely not Labrador. Consult any Vet for to confirm. As it may be a mixed breed, i dnt knw which traits of either breed are inherited. It would have been easier to spot in case of pure breed. Or Visit Dogspot.in for more help.

whats with the breed man, if you like it, then keep it.

I don't know much about breeds, He told me its cross between Labrador and great dane. I asked somebody at Dogspot.in, he said its very low quality labra. I am sure what he meant by that but surely it was got me thinking....

Forget the breed man. Go by your heart, not your mind. If u like it, adopt it.

PS: It looks like u want a dog only as a status symbol (Labrador - breed) Is it ? If its not a Labtador, u wont adopt it ?

Sorry if i sound rude...

it looks adorable alrite.. the legs/paws definitely looks like a great dane's..
adopt it if you really think you can take good care of the dog(no matter how it grows up - great dane or lab or a mix), if not please give it away to someone who you think will give proper care..

You couldn't have put it any better. :)

She is both adorable and playful.

Just get her checked by a vet, do the needful and take her home.

I'm sure he meant she wasn't show worthy. :|

Unless, your dog is planning to compete in dog shows or otherwise, this shouldn't be a problem.

Remember, true dog lovers love their dog(s) irrespective of their breed, lineage, behaviour, appearance and health problems if any.

Take good care of her right from the start.

At this age, they'll require a lot more attention (just like babies) but that will eventually lessen with time.

Healthy food and proper grooming is also essential.

You will also need to take her to a vet periodically, for shots and deworming.

^ Might seem overwhelming but trust me, you'll get used to doing it and start loving it.

That said, make sure you CAN before you go ahead.

Good luck.

Post some pics if/after you take her home:

No, I am looking not looking for dog as status symbol as but because I always wanted to have one(used to play with German Shepherd at Grandma's house at age of 8 or I should he used to play with me:P). but later he died.

Now, why the hell I am concerned about breeds is I am concerned with the dogs health. since its a cross between Labrador and great dane. now both breed are prone to Arthritis. So I was wondering if mixing two, would exponentially increase the risk. All I want is a healthy and well behaved pup

hehehehe excatly what should be done to get legs crippled. It happens due to deficiency of Calcium......... Medium to big breed puppies must not be exercsed until they grow up.

Ur pup is lookin like 15-20 days old....lab puppies will twice tht size in 6 weeks. Cant say what she will be after 6 months. She might be Gr8 dane ouside and lab inside :ohyeah: My golden retrieveris omplete coward..:ashamed: only grouse i have with retrievers

AND SHE IS CUTE:clap:

mixed breeds have lower health concerns than pure breeds so no need to worryabt diseases.

Its the opposite what happens, a crossbreed is generally more healthier due to hybrid vigour
purebreeds are more prone to genetic diseases
the pup looks very cute, get it home :)

@OP

I'd stay away from the Sony P&Ss if I were you.

Overpriced for the features & IQ they offer, then there's the issue of proprietary accessories.

Honestly, there is no way anyone can predict how a cross breed will look like when it grows up. So don't worry about that. The Puppy looks healthy enough. So go for it. One thing that you may need to take care of is, its legs. If the puppy develops the upper body of a lab with those legs, you will soon have a lot of health issues.

Cute little puppies grow into large dogs, Make sure you have the place for it once its grown up.

Also get a fix on the monthly increase in budget, its not insignificant for a large dog.

I guess i misunderstood u :( Sorry bro... :)

One small thing that others haven't commented on - from your posts, it seems that you are too focused on owning a "puppy" rather than a dog/pet that will stay with you for years to come. It's too easy to get yourself into puppy mania and conveniently forget that the puppy is going to grow a lot bigger and will need more attention. A lot of people I know have experienced something along the lines of buyer remorse a few months after buying a puppy.

I certainly hope you've considered all the long term investments of time, money and most importantly, love and affection that you will need to shower on the pet, even years after it is no longer a puppy but a full grown dog.

Very cute dog btw.
