Can Anybody Suggest a Good Free Video Editing Software?

Guys,

I am looking for a free video editing software that allows me to edit video with an easy as well as enables merging of videos. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. I have already used Virtual Dub & Avidemux but results were not satisfactory.

what editing capabilities are you looking for?

what results do you expect from the software?

preferred video output extension = ?
 
i always wish i could add signature to my HD videos collection (without losing the quality)...

is there any software(free) available ??
