@karti

i wud suggest u to go wid the rig DA suggested... Why buy something which is old... and i think all the p4 rig parts wud b out ov warranty... So a caution sign from my side :)... Plus Sempron 145 is a 45w CPU... So u can also use the rig DA suggested as a 24/7 downloading rig... it will consume way less power than the p4 rig... :)
yes i am considering the same

1GB Ram would be good with 160gb hdd however a dual core processor would be better in the long run imo.

locally diff. between 1GB and 2GB is almost nil... no point saving 100-150 odd.... i can still save that with cheap quality ram as a dealer is quite friendly and i have been buying product from him for past 3-4 yr.

on HD even 40Gb would do

@ dual core ... i think that will shoot my budget

ok now its comes to Acer eMachines eM350 Netbook VS sempron setup

i was going through android apps. and to my surprises it has skype/fraps/yahoo messenger apps. available with voice chat enabled

can i consider an android phone for this purpose  or stick with the reliable computer power

I duuno if it is available in the market yet but it was reported by Techtree which is a very reputed Indian Tech Site.

Link: Acer Releases eM350 Netbook with MTS MBlaze > Netbook > Techtree.com

I think you should contact your nearest Acer Dealer. BTW, don't even think of buying an Android phone. It can never give you the convenience of a Netbook.

Sorry about this... But this is what the fineprint reveals: :ashamed:

This Acer eM350 netbook is also targeted to professionals, Acer is offering a free MTS dongle at and affordably priced at only Rs. 10,999, Whereas the MRP of this netbook is Rs. 12,999, on the Purchase of eM350 netbook, customers will receive cash back of Rs. 2,000 within a fortnight of the MTS Mblaze activation. By providing this offer, the Acer wants to capture more market share.

BTW, even at 12,999/- I still feel this is a great buy as it has a 250GB harddrive as opposed to the 160GB drive offered by higher priced competitors.

Android phones in this price range lacks a secondary cam.
i wont be doing a video chat

technically i wont be able to do a video call through gprs ... low speed

3G plans are too costly and i i go for video call then i will use my main rig for it with my 2mbps line

the best option was to buy micromax entry level android @6.5k and use it for vioce chat but my sis wont except micromax at any cost so a better phone cost around 9~10k .... thats why was looking for comp.

Dont buy Micromax

Very less service centers. No SAR values specified. Esp. that phone has a Android resistive touch and no such a great experience.

There are quite a few Samsung mid-range Androids that will release in 2-4 weeks. They will fall in the 9k-13k budget category. Consider them.

it was just an idea not the final thought ... i am still searching for netbook though but open to other ideas as well

Are you open to the idea of a VOIP phone ? It can stay connected to the main internet connection at your home and can be on 24/7. The downside is your bro will also need one from the same brand(Siemens/Panasonic)

SIEMENS: Amazon.com: Siemens Gigaset Digital Cordless Phone with Hybrid IP/Landline Calling (A580IP): Electronics

good idea but not possible for my bro ..... he is a manager at abu dhabi airport [sorry i cant disclose more] and there are many restrictions so he cant use his VOIP phone there

why not go for a mobile with ability to run GTalk(not sure if its available on Mob.)/Yahoo messenger. I have a Nokia 5230, i basically bought it so I can voice chat with Skype. But unfortunately my service provider(Vodafone) has blocked the port used for voice chat. Will be switching soon to DoCoMo (mostly probably) to make it work.

that is the reason i am looking for android OS

yahoo messenger/fring/nimbuzz etc. offer voice chat through gprs/3G/wifi

i have nokia 7230 and nokia 6500 slide they both support nimbuzz voice chat

but i couldnt get connected to nimbuzz server after repeated attempts ... tried bsnl/airtel/aircel gprs to connect ... but in vain

so a phone with android OS will give multiple options to voice chats .. cant just rely on 1 s/w[nimbuzz]
