CPU/Mobo Can I mix RAM?

Buying a Lenovo c-260 which has a 2GB RAM. Can I put in a 4GB RAM in the other slot?

Yes. But make sure the speeds are same like 1333Mhz

And also see if the brands are same. Mixing different brands on same machine not a good idea. You will probably end up with a non-booting machine.

CPU-Z is what I should use to see what RAM I need?

Will opening the machine to add RAM void the warranty?

Use cpuz to find out whether ddr1/2/3 and to find the frequency.

Regarding warranty,it would be better if you confirm it from their customer support.

What laptop do you have? Generally, replacing RAM & Hard disk doesn't void warranty.

Bought the Lenovo c-260. OPened it and can see only one slot for RAM. The specs say it should have 2 slots. Could one be 'under' the motherboard? It's DDR3 PC3 12800.

Memory is also limited to a max of 8GB DDR3 which further points to there being only 1 slot.

Selling a computer with 2gb RAM should be a jail able offence, and it should be punishable by death if you provide only one slot.

You could always return the laptop if required.

I've put in a 4GB RAM. Just that the 2GB RAM is wasted.
