I guys sorry for posting this nood question
but can we really unlock AMD x4 955 BE to 6 cores
My freind has this proccy and he said we can do it but i said its not possible

no you cannot. all phenom ii x4 processors are based on the deneb which has only 4 cores. you need a thuban based for 5 cores. unfortunately only the X6s are thuban based. i guess that AMDs manufacturing of thuban die is so perfect, they havent had any defects. or maybe they are just piling up.
is yours a deneb based???

download everest ultimate and from the toolbar at the top,
goto:- Tools>CPUID. then a box will come up. in there a specification "Code Name" should have deneb or thuban written in it.

AMDs roadmap does say that they will release a reduced-Thuban at some point of time. But so far none have been launched yet ....

There was never a penta core processor in the pipeline. However AMD released Thuban based Zosma Core which has 4cores (Phenom II X4 9X0T) but later they restricted it for OEM based system only :(

Thanks guys for all your inputs
And one more querry
Is it really worth to unlock amd phenom 2 555 black edition ?
I mean there is only difference of 3k in 955 and 555 so why not get 955 insted so that you can get company's oficial warranty if there is any issues after unlocking 555 of if both cores are defective and we end up having no warranty and a 2 core processor

see. sometimes this type of risks come into play. if you have bad luck with things in general, you better buy a 4 core instead of trying to unlock a 2 core.

a popular choice is to take a Phenom X3 720 and unlock it. that way... 3 cores is enough even if the last one is bad.
also unlocking reduces your overclocking due to the last core.

of course it voids warranty. if something goes wrong, you bought 2 cores so you will get a 2 core warranty. not the unlocked cores. since half cores warranty cant be there, warranty will be void.

actually even overclocking damage is not covered under warranty.

but that feature(ACC) was provided by amd

no it wasnt. you do not have the right to modify the product from its manufactured specifications. if it was meantto be unlocked ,AMD would have unlocked and sold it to you. why do you think they are offering at a lower price?

i don't think unlocking is modifying we are just using what is present in the hardware

You get warranty for the CPU not the cores. AMD will entertain every sort of warranty until and unless the CPU is physically damaged.

They are offering at a lower price because it is binned. Else they would have sold it as a X4. Plus AMD use binned processor to increase the product line up and reduce cost on manufacturing a dual / triple core. Do you think AMD is fool that they allow their Motherboard partners let advertise unlock thing as a feature ?

Unless there is visible marks of burning/damage i dont think the warranty is void as there is no proof to say that it was unlocked or overclocked. The issue is damage due to overclocking will burn the proccy and same could be expected from unlocking ( not very common though). I have a 555BE unlocked to a quad and overclocked to 3.6 and prime tested for 8 hrs, then i removed the overclock! But its best to use a decent cooler for this to be safe.

if it does get damaged due to OC(less possibility as CPU auto shuts off befre damage), there will be marks in the silicon structure inside.
