My Main Question is should I get the AMD Phenom which has 6 cores or the Intel Core i5?

I googled, and i5 outperformed the AMD Phenom but I'm just a casual gamer with no encoding/overclocking needs.

AMD kit costs me cheaper and is also future proof because of the extra cores.

You already have a monitor, DVD R/W etc.. from your old rig? Mention your monitor size. Also mention your budget.

Though if you have more money to spare I would recommend a MSI HD6850 PE ~ 9.3k. Even though the Phenom has hexa core the i5 quad beats it most of the scenarios. So s

tick to i5. If AMD then wait for the Bulldozer launch.
 
anybody else in favor of the x6 with some reasonable reasoning?

I'm inclining towards the i5 more and more.

I hear ATI drivers aren't as good as nVidia, so the 550Ti is a better buy. any contradictions..?
 
@Darkangel, When do you think Bulldozer is coming out?

@mesopotamia, also take a look at Intel DH67GD mobo - Rs.6400.. I bought one less than a month ago.. Its quite a VFM in my opinion...
 
At that budget I do go for a 6850 over a 550ti.yes nvidia drivers are better but for the price range Ati gives more bang for the buck.
 
Going with a 6850 would be a better option, more future proof. Rest why ATi? Same as vantheman posted. :)

Logitech multimedia keyboard ~ 450/-

Gigabyte GM-6800 ~ 650/-

The AMD Thuban architecture [K8] is ageing in comparison to Intel's tick-tock update cycle which makes the overall difference in performance, the new memory controllers of Intel also out-perform AMD's [except in the case of AMD Lynx architecture].

AMD driver packages are just as good as nVidia, it is now an then that a horrible patch is released with a bevy of issues but in the recent history, after v. 11.3 thankfully there have been no such upheavals.
