Performance loss as to using the actual 2.5" slot I meant, gotcha on the installation.

So its my friends laptop, ill toss in a 250gb SSD into the main slot and use the caddy for an old 1000gb HDD I have. Should make it faster and ill be doubling the HDD storage too. Hopefully its worth it. Thanks again, man.

I've had a similar setup since many years, you can take off the face plate from your existing dvd drive and put it on the caddy so it looks like a regular drive but has a hard drive inside.

Even I am using caddy on my laptop for more than 2 years. Caddy drive is the same mentioned by @logistopath

Wow!!! It's an HGST drive. Do keep it an an antique when you no longer need the drive. Hgst is known for their reliability.
