Cheap psu recommendation on my cheap build

Ryv

Beginner
i have a cheap build that consist of i5 3750K, 8gb ddr3 ram , zebronics H61nvme mobo, zebronics 256 nvme and a iball psu that outputs 240w . I was wondering if that psu will handle if i add an sapphire rx5504gb gfx card or even a 1650 gigabyte windforce or should i upgrade

I recently built a similar office desktop for a friend. After going through the PSU tier list, the cheapest 550W psu with at least C rating I could find was MSI MAG A550BN. Corsair and cooler master were either more expensive or lower rating at 550W. There is CM MWE 450 Bronze - V2 230V at around 3k but it is rated as D- and only 450W. 550W V3 is rated at C- and costs 4K.

I got the MSI one at 3.6K from TLG, they are fast and reliable for me so far. But they are out of stock now. It seems I got the last one.

You might find this cheaper at your local PC store.

May i ask how much that build cost, i only added the nvme, rest of it including the cabinet i got it for 2k. And add the 1.5k for nvme. It costs me 3.5k . And i have put a budget of 7k for a gpu . I didn’t think of getting a psu cause i thought the default one would be sufficient. I was trying to get it all done at 10k. Getting a psu for 3.k seems a little overkill

It was from parts donated/borrowed from friends. Around 10k I think. With Ryzen 3400g. No gpu.

As for your build, if budget is that tight, put up a WTB thread here. Someone might be selling an old Corsair or CM psu for under 2k-1.5k.

The problem with a cheap psu is that it is a failsafe for all your other components, like an insurance. If it fails, in a worse case scenario, almost all your hardware can become useless. That's why most of us recommend to not cheap out on it. Get a c grade at least.

I see, i only started to doubt psu cause of redditors saying some psu’s are like bombs ( like Ant esports) . It looks like I’ll have to wait a little for get a gpu.

Never cheap out on a PSU. A good one is selling here minus warranty:
S12ii was good enough for its time but its design is super old and it was rated low priority even in D tier in the now obsolete older tier list.

In the latest tier list, S12III, the updated version of II, is listed as F and to be avoided. A no-name brand with 2-3K price range on amazon but with latest design would be preferable to that. At least you get some warranty and parts that aren't at worn down.

I haven't personally used their PSUs but they are a cheapo brand with cheap parts. Doesn't mean they are bombs. Haven't heard anyone's PC that uses them explode like that Gigabyte fiasco and Gigabyte is a much bigger brand. Still, I would not recommend them. Just don't take a random redditor's word as gospel. I wager it is only slight better than your iball psu or in the same ball park. So no point in changing them.

Buddy, please don't feel bad but all your parts are just around the same quality as that of that PSU. I would rather save money and use it as it is and try to save that money towards a better build eventually. I have seen plenty of older builds (like Intel 9th-10th gen or Ryzen 2000 or 3000 series) being sold for 12-20K with GPU. Those PCs would be generations ahead of i5 3750K and perform much better. Save your money.

No hard feelings, i would’ve saved if i had the same enthusiasm and time to game like i used to. But it hasn’t been same after growing up and getting a job. I just wanted to finish a build within 10k or close to that. And for now wanted to know if this iball can handle if i add a used gpu too which is likely and rx550 or 1650 if i can get one for 6k

That PSU likely does not even have GPU power connector. Have you checked that? I have seen its likes before and they only come with mobo, cpu and some sata connectors. Not much else. If it does have a PSU connector, it might be okay with a low powered GPU. But I doubt it. And in that case, just get the cheapest PSU with 500-550W second-hand that you can find.

The graphics card i mentioned doesn’t need external power connectors

Would reiterate the suggestions above. Either save for future upgrade or go with a good used PSU, though you might have to wait.

If you are particular about getting a new PSU right away, these could be few options - or can try for same PSUs during amazon/flipkart sales.
