Cheap tactics by Airtel : (May 2009)ISD rates increased many folds

Guys. Its a heads up for all.

Airtel increased ISD rates silently in May 2009. There's no communication on the same. Only that they updated their website. ( It is expected that you should check the website before making calls. Ba$+$$ds).For some countries, they have increased the rates to the order of 5-10 times.

It happened when I got an inflated bill. When I checked with customer care they told that the call rate to that nation increased from Rs 9.2 to whopping Rs 45 per call. :@

I feel pity on Airtel owner. He has resorted to cheap tactics. No wonder he may some day opt for begging too.

Waiting for number portability to come into existence.
 
there is no such country where the call rate is 45 Rs a minute from India unless ur using airtel on international roaming

tell me which country u called and u were charged 45/min.

i wud like to know!!
 
Thankfully the main international destinations are still at 6.4Rs.

45Rs rates are a bit too much. I agree.
 
Well the point is.. If its mandatory, companies do have the right to increase the tariffs; however consumers have an equal right of knowing the same. Why is it that a reduction is tariffs comes with pomp and show and a hike is done silently? I am sure anyone can understand the tactics.

I made some ISD calls in April, and then in August. How would I know beforehand that the prices have increased in between as there was no communication.

I am an Airtel customer since 2003 with 3 connections in my name. No big issues till now. But this is something that I do not appreciate.

Anyways this was a heads up for others so that they do not fall into trap.

PS: It seems that Idea and others too have increased the rates. So do check before you make calls.

CHeck my earlier thread on airtels in mobile section......the scheme for which i used to pay 15 buks to get discounted call rates....per month......was enable automatically at month end....no problem for me......but they start charging 1 rupee per day charge where as they still give the scheme for 15 buks per month if done through retailer.....in short straight away 15 buks robbery...plus its my duty to remember when the scheme ends and all...

Read is carefully here no one is talking abt scheme or plans. Here the concern is the way they bla bla abt cheap 50 paisa call plan and poster and tv ads same way they should atleast sms customer abt increase tariff of isd thats what all was required. boss its easy to say but when you will got heavy bill beacuse of lack of info from ur opertaor you will also be the first in line to crib...
 
Just to update. I was in touch with the customer care and then with the nodal officer. I explained to him that it was not right on their part to not communicate rate revisions.

He agreed and reverted almost 30% of ISD charges. :)
