yeah man available in Bangalore ... I asked Chaos..

Find out the Gigabyte dealer in ur place and see if its available...

or pick one up from Bangalore. Im gonna do the same...

edit: It's the same as the Zalman ZM460 APS, and the zalman is more silent , but still noisier than the 450. and availability in tvm is doubtful.

What's your budget greenie?? :S

p.s. Lotsa people have the stock CM 120x25mm fans lying spare- 40cfm odd sleeve bearing and very silent mainly due to the really low cfm. :P

do you think that a generic PSU + a 7 volted ( voltage not an issue since I'll be making my own custom fan controller. it just needs an LM317 chip :P ) will be more silent than a VX 450? even with hte fan running at the same speed all the time compared to the variable speed fan in the 450.

KMD also has a scythe 120mm for sale @ 800

Decisions , decision :P

Rather than moddin it out, source a VX450;

Let ur first modded thing be powered in peace and silence. :P

hey gannu, can your celeron run fanless when idle on the TRUE if you downclock it ?

PS: dont fry it trying to see if it does :ashamed:

Yes it can.. Although during booting, it may show an error suggesting no cpu fan's connected..

The celerons dont get heated up like the C2Ds..

And mine amazed me with its performance..

Ran HD (720p), although while fast forwarding n rewinding it takes li'l time.

Played FEAR, Farcry @ Full Res, Full Eye Candy.. :)

No need of downclocking as such, even otherwise..

PS: Are u trying to figure out a 0 dB system.. :P

The VIP 400w silver has thermal control on its fan, the circuitry is present and it works just fine. I checked - but my supply is about a year old now, I don't know how the new ones are configured.

But it's not truly silent. It's quieter than my ceiling fan which is on all the time, so you can't actually hear it anyway. The thermal control is biased towards cooling over quiet (unlike Antecs and the HX range of supplies, which are biased towards quiet over cooling) so it stays cool. This is easy to change, by loosening the coupling between the thermistor and the heatsink or by letting it hang in free air (so the system thinks it is cooler than it really is).

I hooked my CPU and PSU fan to the +12 and +5V lines (7V PD) and the systeem is near silent.

You can hear it only when the fan and AC are turned off...

Now in Chennai, you have to have one of the two always on, so it's as good as 0db

Also, the box is stacked between book inside a shelf outside the main living area, so the noise is not a concern at all...

Since a file server/dl box does not have to occupy the place of pride in your living room, Instead of spending extra effort/money on making it true 0db, why not just stash away the system somewhere where it is out of sight (and hearing)

well, if its more silent than a ceiling fan and a 3.5mm HDD, thats good enough. even i have to run the fan the whole time :D

Thing is , VIP's are hard to source here. Are there any cheap PSU's with thermal control?

I can throw away the 80mm and put a 120mm one on the broad side, so thats not an issue.

thing is , its going to be hidden in plain view :ohyeah:.... as something else ;)

Someone suggested gigabyte superb and I concur. Have it in my audio/media rig and its damn quiet. I paid 2350 but now its available for 2200. Its an FSP green and I think spcr gave it a thumbs up.
