Would like to know some details about either Club Mahindra's or Sterling Resorts' membership plans. Neither of these put up details of tariff on their websites. Anyone who is a member, please comment.

1. How is the membership tariff determined?
2. How many months/years would I have to pay the tariff? Also, is the fee going to be the same year after year, or will it be changed every once in a while?
3. Suppose I become a member, can I allow my brother's family to avail the facilities on my behalf?
4. What all services/facilities does the fee cover?

My dad had taken sterling holidays membership some 10-15 years back and it is not worth it IMO. Their resorts are very far from main areas and not at all close to civilization. I know one would say that that's the point of a holiday but if you have no access to anything then not cool.
Since i become aware about the internet i have told my dad not to put money in anything without asking me especially the offers that sound too good to be true.
He also got to know about some pyramid scheme 2-3 years back, don't remember the name but was something similar to speak asia but i told him not to waste the money.

From what i know you get 7 days free stay (not entirely free) in any of their resorts in India and if they have affiliation with RCI then worldwide.
I think you can let someone else enjoy the benefits (or lack of) but you have the read their terms and conditions and ask everything.
My personal opinion would be to pay for the hotel etc when you actually want to go to holiday and not take these offers.
There may be people with positive experiences but for us it is disaster and i am never ever going to pay for any timeshare ever.

@raksrules: Point taken. Personally though, I've been to a couple of Club Mahindra resorts (Coorg and Kodaikanal) and both were wonderful with regards to food, facilities and activities too. But then, I don't understand the economy of the scheme. That is why I'm more interested about the fee they charge. One thing in favour of these memberships is that, you have already paid for accommodation by the time you plan the holiday. What I feel is a disadv is that, you are tied down to certain specific locations only.

BTW, the queries above have been posted on behalf of a friend, who was impressed by a mailer he received recently (I'm equally interested in knowing the details though.. :P)

I took a Studio plan. Cost was 1,90000 for 25 years and comes with complementary 2 years membership of RCI.
Apart from the 1,90,000 have to pay 9000 every year which increases every year. What you get for that is a 1 week stay in a 5 star resort. The best thing i liked was that you get a whole apartment with your own kitchen and everything.
The only reason we took this plan was that my dad is very lazy when it comes to planning holidays and my mom pines for such week long getaways. So once you have invested so much one kinda feels the need to go and get the worth of their money. I feel that the overall cost would be the same in the end whether you use timesharing services or pay the actual charges when you go on a holiday.
One of the main problems that one might face is that you have to plan your holidays in advance and book your weeks a few months prior to your trip. Si for someone who isn't sure when he can take a week off this arrangement might not work. On the other hand since you know months before the exact dates of your getaway, one can get very cheap airline tickets.

For example we went to Goa this year in March and booked the tickets in December. So the airfare cost was 4k each way each person while Rajdhani 1st AC cost was 3700 per person for one side.

I have a CM membership, and the irony is that I haven't taken a single vacation yet. The fees include a one time payment when you join (either down payment or EMI option), and then an 'Annual Subscription Fee', which keeps changing every year based on the Wholesale Price Index (inflation). Right now this is around 10K per year.

Their resorts are top class, and the price is definitely worth it for any family which loves taking vacations once a year. Perfect for lazing around. However the real fun is when one gets an RCI membership along with it. It opens up a whole new set of resorts / hotels world over, which can be availed in exchange of the annual week received from CM. As these guys are currently categorised as 5 star luxury, you get a get exchange value at RCI.

THanks for your inputs, guys...! The more I read, the more I'm convinced that I'm better off managing my holidays on my own. Will forward this thread to my friend.

ditto with me.. i have been a CM member for more than 4 years now.. and i am yet to go for a tour on any of their locations.. will plan out for corbett this time around for sure.. :P

Don;t know about scam, i have been a club Mahindra member for over 7 years now. I have visited most of their properties in South India and they are damm good. You have to pay annual maintenance charges post taking membership. Initially the charges were around 2k and latest have gone up to 10k now. But the rooms they give and the resort and its facilities are very good.
So definitely worth going for the same. You need to plan your holiday in advance and do the bookings. Overall the experience has been good for me.

OT but if anyone is interested in selling his unused weeks in time shares, I am interested. I already have arrangements with certain members on TE for Club Mahindra but would be interested in exploring other time shares as well.
