MacBook White Plastic with 9400M!! (Ofcourse you have to let go of the Card-Reader requirement)

The 9 cell battery will also jut out of the back. And if you can do without TF2, I would say you should seriously consider a 10 - 11" netbook.

BTW which college did you get into?

Mohit........learn from my experience if you can. I was in the same position as you

1. MBA

2. Was interested in gaming

3. But was worried about battery life.....

So got a dell inspiron, 1520 with 8600M GT, with a 9 cell battery. Since college was closeby and I had a car, the weight didnt bother me much BUT......the mofo with the adapter almost broke my back.

Besides, a machine with a dedicated GPU, has not much respite even with a 9 cell battery.

My suggestion -----> you would need your laptop day in and day out in an MBA course.

You wouldn't have time to play games in college.

Ditch gaming !

When in college, since all your mates would be requested to carry a laptop, you will see people clambering next to the power socket. In an MBA course, you would spend hours in college.

Go for a laptop with onboard video, good battery life, slim and light weight (hence get something with LED screen, it saves battery and makes the laptop light weight)

Cos all you will be doing is making PPTs or surfing the web.

My ideal suggestion would be to get a 13.3 inch lappie with LED screen. Its a perfect combination of the right size and hence weight and usability in terms of screen size and keyboard size.

Remember, it wouldnt only be your laptop that you would carry. You might have some books and also your tiffin for food if you carry home made food.

A netbook will be too small and too slow I feel. I am mostly getting into G.D. Goenka World Institute, Delhi.

Dell Studio, better than the rest. get more than 2gb for sure. 4 is better.

Considering Dell because it has on-site warranty and will be really easy for me as I will be in the hostel and the college campus is on the outskirts of the city.

why don't you go for Sony VAIO?

I have heard and have had bad experiences with their warranty and support. So not really considering them.

Points noted :)

For 13.3" - I think there is only the Dell XPS or the HP Pavilion DV3-2103TX. What do you suggest? There is also the Macbook from Apple at that size. More confusion. Lol.

yeah dont go above 14" if you will need to carry it around...

Yes. Considering only 14" inches or lesser now. Thanks for the input.

@Punker

Any idea of the price of that Macbook? And does Apple give student discounts in India?

UPDATE: Getting the HP Pavilion DV3-2103TX mostly. Here are the specs,

Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T6500 (2.1 Ghz)

Intel PM45 Chipset

4GB DDR2 800 Mhz RAM

320GB SATA 5400 RPM HDD

13.3" LED WS Display

Nvidia 9200M GS 512MB

Vista Home Premium 32-bit

Integrated Bluetooth

VGA Webcam

Altec Lansing stereo speakers

5 in 1 Digital Media reader

Integrated 802.11 b/g

Integrated fingerprint reader

OS upgradable to Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit

HP Backpack

Price - Rs. 52,000/- (all inclusive)

If Dell gives me some awesome pricing on the Studio 14" then I might consider it though.

Hi Mohit...chek out new Timeline series from ACER.....the reviews are just great and the main advantages are very very light,8+ hours battery life and cost is also less....but the problem is it has Intel ULV Processor......so gaming is not possible...but for college usage this can be the best....

Mohit, what about the battery? Is the 9 Cell battery available on that HP Lappy?

My requirements are same as yours lol (MBA+TF2 ).

The Acer TL 3810T looks good but it has a Core 2 Solo processor and at 1.40 Ghz. Also DDR3 1066 Mhz. I think DDR2 800 Mhz would be better than that.

Any idea about the price though?

9 cell will make the laptop heavy and I will be avoiding it. I will be staying in the hostel so I think I can mange with a 6 cell battery. Also whats your steam id?

Acer TL 3810T is available for 38K, but here the main problem is it doesn't have an optical drive....and SU3500 processor is not a power house by any means.....the main thing is 8 hours of backup time and 1.5kg of weight....:hap2:

^^38K seems steep. And no optical drive???? That is a sure shot weakness for college peeps at least. I think the HP DV3 which I am choosing is better. It weighs around 2.24 Kg though. Still very much portable.
