^^38K seems steep. And no optical drive???? That is a sure shot weakness for college peeps at least. I think the HP DV3 which I am choosing is better. It weighs around 2.24 Kg though. Still very much portable.

any review on HP DV3 and what about the battery life..????

^^Its new I guess. So haven't seen any review. But saw the DV3 today with my dealer and it looks real nice. Chrome has been used all over and its pretty sleek. Keys also felt nice. Just that there is no backlit keyboard. Vista was running smooth on it.

The Acer TL 3810T looks good but it has a Core 2 Solo processor and at 1.40 Ghz. Also DDR3 1066 Mhz. I think DDR2 800 Mhz would be better than that.

How can DDR2 RAM be better than DDR3 RAM in performance?

Acer has another two laptops in its Timeline series.
Out of those two, the 4810T i.e the 14 inch screen version has a DVD writer inbuilt, no need to connect an external writer.

DDR2533 was as good as DDR400 and in some cases DDR400 was better with tighter latencies. Similarly, I think DDR3 is not worth it unless its like 1600Mhz or so else DDR2 800/1066 Mhz is fine.

I think the 4810T will be priced around 40-45k which is again steep I feel. I am better off with the HPDV3 for 52k with a lot of good stuff and powerful processor. Even the weight difference between the 4810T and the DV3 will be around 300 grams.

I think the Dell is better because,

+ 1 year Complete Cover
+ On-site warranty
+ 7200 RPM HDD

What do you guys think?

I would prefer HP bcos of the portablity ( 13`).since your going to college.

I think Dell is over price just for 7200rpm and Ati3450 ,which both aren't that great in performance.Still you would have a great support with Dell.

Still both are equally good.

Go with HP dude...COZ..

1, Lighter

2, Better Battery life with smaller screen and Lower graphics

3, 7200RPM HDD will hamper backup time

4, Windows 7 Upgrade is not available with Studio 14 in Dell
