I've almost fixed up this config. Can you guys check it out & give me suggestions on brands? Hope you'll spare the time to help me out.

My budget is around 32000.I also want a TV tuner card & a webcam(exclusive of 32000). Which brand & model would you recommend?

AMD 64-bit 3000+ (Socket 939)- 7500/-
MSI RS480 M2-IL chipset - 5000/-
512 Mb RAM Transcend - 2700/-
160 gb HDD Seagate( not SATA)- 3900/-
17 inch LG monitor flat - 6800/-
dvd writer - Sony - 3600/-
cabinet - Iball grabit or Coloursir
speakers - Creative SB370 2.1 - 1400/-

Also , I cant seem to find MSI boards anywhere in Pune, atleast with the major dealers like
Sujata, Baba & Data care. My father is not allowing me to buy the boards separately from outside Pune.
So, can you suggest any other large, cheap, reliable dealers in Pune? I'll see if they have MSI. I found a dealer who did, called Stech but dont really know about them.
The problem in Pune seems to be that they stock only Asus without onboard graphics(A8N)which alongwith
the graphics card works out to 5-6 grand more than MSI.

Thanks in advance :-)
Anand

That was fast!! will do.. thanks, bladerunner...and should I go for a 350 or 400w smps..iball or coloursir...n the TV tuner card & webcam

Yes hes the Guy to ask for theese type of things BTW hes frm Pune too.....

PS:I see this is ur 1st post.Welcome to TE why don't u tell more abt ur self

Well, I'm in my last yr of engineering...& love surfing & drooling over cool gadgets...finally getting an upgrade after 5 years of using a P3 550 Mhz...So, I've been spending the last 10 days browsing forums & reading reviews :-)

400W powersafe if you are planning to add some more components for the future. Always good to have a decent psu ;)

Is that psu you mentioned by any chance a ColorsIT ? Anyhow, a powersafe 400w doesn't cost much and is a good investment IMHO. Would have invested in one myself, but investments require money :)

@inzider - oops!! Ya, Its a colourSIT...n investments are the problem here too. The main block is that my dad's not letting me pick & choose components from different dealers....So, the only options were Iball & ColoursIT at the only place in Pune where I found MSI...So, I really need to find one big dealer in my city who has everything retail n loads of choices...

--- any sugg on the tv tuner card???--- Is a Compro Videomate good? or are there better one
---about DVD writers...everyone recommends Liteon but I've read a couple of reviews stating BenQ DW set is better...your suggestions

@Kumar - I guess I'll have to wait for the BenQ then...esp till it reaches Pune.I'll use my old LG CD-RW till then...Thanks for the info

Its better to wait for a good product than to buy a sub-par one.

PS:Don't wait forever like me though ...im still waiting for that elusive AGP card(Im still on GF2MX400 :-(( )

THE PSU IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN YOU THINK!! it is the heart of the computer...

And watts dont mean crap, you can have a 1000000W psu which is total crap if it is not delivered on the right rails and with the correct amperage. With todays systems (i.e. yours) a minimum of 26A on 12V is pretty much what is good. and the more the better. Especially if you will be overlocking.

Again, i dont know the indian market or prices but enermax, ocz, antec, PC P&C, are among the best.

next best would be coolermaster, thermaltake, Meridian and a few others...

hope that helps

@kev - It does help...I'll check out the PSU specs out of those available, when I buy...thanks

guys...what about the TV tuner n Pune dealers?

Ask Darklord or Apollyo... I'm frm last year comp engg pune too.... which college are u in?
I am not that much of a hardware freak so I can't tell u where to get MSI... you probably will have a hard time there.. As for Sujata/Baba they charge high rates. Of course, Sujata does get most of the latest stuff (as compare to ther dealers barring lamington road).
And those stinking fools Data Care..... ugggh! I was buying a laptop from them (50k nearly) and they say, sorry we won't accept a cheque from you (even if delivery was given only after realization, they just wouldn't take a cheque), nor even a draft, just cash or credit card!!! In case they didn't know, cash transations so large are illegal, and I didn't have that kind of credit balance available to me on any credit card. Avoid the bl**** fools.

For a cheap Tuner card compro Videomate does good work ! LOL hauppage isnt available in India ;) As for DVD writers everyone here will recommend the Benq 1640 which should start retailing soon at 3.6k or more. Its older sibling the Benq 1620 is available readily and will cost you arnd 3k. ColorsIT is a decent psu but i can vouch for powersafe's stability and to top it costs arnd 1.4k or less for the 400W and 2.3k for the 500W.

You guys have been extremely helpful & damn fast with your replies too..IOU
@KingKrool - I'm in last year elex engg VIT...Which coll are you in?...And have you heard of this place called Stech...they have MSI, but I know zilch about them...
I've pm'ed Darklord by mail, but haven't received a reply yet...DARKLORD n Appolyon, where are thou?? i have loads of stuff to ask you - where to find BenQ, Liteon , MSI et al...
@blade runner - Do you recommend I should buy the comp & wait for the DVD writer or just buy the BenQ 1620?...Does the Benq 1640 support more formats or is it just a matter of burning speed?
OK, I think I'm allowed one ultra-dumb question which screws my non-existent rep :-) !!! Is the TV tuner card operation wireless? If my TV is in the living room & the comp in a different room far away, what do I do? Take a cable across rooms??

Well the benq 1640 supports faster speeds. Thats the only +ve i think. There might be some improvements with the writing mechanisms for better quality writes. Still i'd say if you are not in a hurry wait for teh 1640 for 500-600 more ;)

Yeah u will have to take a cable connection to where ur PC is :)
