Laptops Connecting Laptop to Sony Bravia TV using HDMI

I have MSI Wind Netbook having native resolution of 1366 x 768. It has an HDMI port too. I tried connecting the netbook to my TV but it is not able to get the display properly on it. I am sure cable is all fine as it works well with my media player.
What happens is that the output comes on TV for a second and then goes blank and comes again intermittently. I am sure it is something to do with the resolution of the laptop but cannot get the settings right. The manual does mention something about getting the PC screen on TV and requires to do something but all that is going bouncer to me. :ashamed:

Anyone done this can please help me.
 
well if u want to use it with a PC suggest u use it with VGA out,since the tv supports PC mode in VGA.
in HDMI its suited only for videos,no PC mode.
 
Ok so i bought a male VGA to VGA cable to connect my laptop to my Sony Bravia TV and i was indeed able to connect successfully but works well on when the laptop resolution is set at 1024 x 768 and then TV resolution is to be set as wide to make it cover the entire screen. Not sure whether it is expected.

But any reason why i cannot do that using HDMI ???
