Hmm I would choose the one with 4gb RAM, as thats a bare essential these days. However you can pick a i7 860, and upgrade the RAM within some time, but yeah 4gb is a bare essential right now.

the question really cannot be answered for the person who has created the post because he hasnt mentioned the use for the system.

let us know what you are going to be using on the system.

I think you should go for 4 gb ram atleast for now, there will be bottleneck somewhere as much I believe. I don't have any usage for 4 gig ram and its over for me but I got it anyway when corsair xms2 were launched. Still, feel something more then something less.

get core i7 860 with 4gb ram. the difference will be only 3k.

any way, if you are that much tight on ur budget, i would recommend core i7 860 with 2gb.

after a moth or two, you can add the additional 2GB. If you choose i5 now, you cant replace it easily with core i7 860.

I would strongly recommend that you go for Intel Core i7 860 because of two main reasons:
It supports Hyper Threading
It has higher stock speed of 2.80GHz compared to Intel Core i5 750's 2.66GHz.

Also u could upgrade your RAM in the future when the prices fall

Hmm I presumed a Lynnfield is not gonna used for only browsing and casual computer use, any other apps and 4gb is th bare minimum.

@OP I am not certain whether HT would benefit games much, yep clockspeed bump would though.

hmm i would rather go for i7 for now as i can upgrade the ram later but if i go for i5 & decide to upgrade later then it would be very painful & long procedure.

Conclusion- UPGRADING RAM IS FAR MUCH EASIER THAN UPGRADING PROCESSOR

:D

well after lot of consideration im gonna go for core i5 build hopefully by the end of this month , hope radeon 5750 lives upto my expectation. Its the reason for me waiting so long.
thanks for your suggestions guys but core i5 seems pretty powerful for my needs
