Credit Card Help Desk: Answers to Your Questions!

Hey everyone!
Whats your recommendation for a free or very low-cost credit card suitable for young people. The only feature needed is lounge access—no other perks are necessary.
Does it have to be a credit card? Some Debit cards provide almost same lounge access benefits.
Recently banks have levelled up the restrictions on lounge access to curb the crowd. Most cards now have a minimal spending threshold before you can access the lounge.
I would suggest Bank of Baroda debit card (rupay platinum) it will give you 2 visits per quarter domestically and 2 visits per annum internationally. Charges are 350rs + 18% gst

Canara Bank has a few cards that offer lounge access without spending criteria, but they do have fees.

As Afxal pointed out, a few debit cards offer lounge access.

IDFC and Indusind comes to mind.

Hi - I cancelled my HDFC Infinia credit card as HDFC customer care's resolution on a dispute was pretty poor - they just didn't listen to what I was saying.

I am looking for a credit card vendor which has reasonable dispute policies and which is NOT Amex.

Thanks!

Amex is the only one, all Indian banks are crap, dispute resolution is a hit-or-miss unlike Amex with their no questions asked policy

In 2020, RBI asked HDFC Bank to stop digital launches, new credit card sourcing, etc. for quite some time, which was restored only in Mar.'22. Strange to see they haven't changed much.

I used to work for Amex disputes resolution about 20 years ago (albeit international, not domestic) and they cannot be beat. If the domestic service is even half as good as the international one, they are still leagues above every other domestic player. There's a reason they can charge a premium to customers AND merchants both.

So I got a call today about upgrading (changing) my HDFC x Paytm card to a new lifetime free HDFC card.
They said that after paying for health insurance, I will be getting 100% refund on the health insurance (~14k)

IS THIS A SCAM?

I want to change the card to any other lifetime free normal hdfc card because instant discount are not working on Amazon for this card.

I got the payment link in the email and I wanted to confirm here first if anything shady is going on.

I refused to pay when the caller verified all my HDFC x Paytm credit card details and asked for the CVV (I think he was trying to make the payment on behalf of me) but I did not provide the CVV and he told me to pay it myself. lol. He knows all my bank balance and hdfc customer ids and stuff.

Send an email to HDFC at customerservices.cards@hdfcbank.com stating everything that has happened and ask them to verify and provide in writing the terms of the deal.

Only after that, make the payment.

AFAIK, it is very rare to get a core card (non branded) while having a co-branded card from HDFC. The usual procedure is that you have to close the co-branded card, wait a few months and then apply for the core card.

I strongly believe this is some employee trying to meet his yearly target.

This is completely false btw, what he meant was he will ask you to cancel the policy within 30 days free lookup period as per IRDAI (equivalent of rbi but for insurance sector) & getting full refund.

So, I did not make any payment but I think they generated my policy number, I emailed both hdfc and birla to cancel it. I hope it works.

How do you guys redeem tata neu card's neucoins ? Shopping on tataneu and paying with coins makes me miss bank offers and further cashback. Buying gold from tanishq means lots of coins going into making charges ( 9% mc + 3% gst). can't use for groceries as my location in non-servicable. Flight and hotels are there, but I won't need those services.

As far as I know you can use tataneu coins plus bank offers .
I use to do it.
It gives you option to choose how much nuecoins you want to use.
So just use the amount upto the bank offer limit on purchase.

So that you can make use of both .

Amazon toh aur har*** hai...They have made Amazon pay benefits useless for any decent purchases along with card offer.

It's either buy with card or Amazon pay.

How is the acceptance of Amex these days?

Many years ago, a friend and I walked into a restaurant with the company issued Amex card (we were too young for real cards). The restaurant door had Amex stickers all over it. After we finished the meal, the cashier told us that they do not accept Amex and made one of go withdraw money from a nearby ATM while the other one was held hostage.

You will have a lot of issues with acceptance of Amex at anything other than retail chains. No small merchant would pay a significantly higher cut to Amex.

The entire marketing of Amex is that we can bring more affluent clients to you who will spend a lot more, don't think that is how it ends up working in India.

However, the point on chargeback is right, Amex is the only provider that processes those requests professionally and quickly and is thus a good option for purchasing online from relatively unknown merchants, if they really do accept Amex.

Mostly on 1mg and on Big basket instant orders or the occasional one item purchase on Cliq.
