Car & Bike Decided on Polo... Petrol or Diesel?

Hmm.. Now I am even More Confused..

Will go for Polo Diesel or Punto Diesel.. Nothing more...

Do you know when the New Polo 1.4/1.6 Diesel will be releasing?

Is there any particular reason the i20 is not being discussed here at all, apart from may be budget constraints? The i20 diesel is one helluva machine, and if you have the budget, you should test drive it and see if it meets your expectations.

I have actually booked i10 and cancelled it later after suggestions from many friends..

One of my friends who own i10 told me that the Car has Cheap Quality Materials and that nothing apart from FE is good..

So, what about the VW A.S.S. and is i20 Really good?

the steering feels too lights.. makes me doubt if it would be accurate at high speeds.

the build quality is nowhere comparable to polo or punto..you can literally press the metal body with one finger. for similar external dimentions, it feels very roomy than polo..makes me wonder if there is enough padding/density in the body incase of accidents.

Featurewise i20 may rule the class but i just am not very sure of the quality in terms of build and safety.

These were the reasons why i rules out i20 and that was after taking a test drive.

however, i20 diesel is powerful. On the otherhand, the patrol variant feels awfully inadequate in power with the same engine as i10.

if i have to purchase a diesel vehicle today.. I would first inquire about tata/fiat's ASS in my area. If im satisfied with the feedback from current owners then I would gladly choose Punto.

Else Polo/Fabia..

amongst polo and fabia.. it is contest between Sportingly Classic Vs Classic. engines are same on both for now.

@querry regarding higher capacity diesel variant. I really do not have any ETA but you may try to get in contact with VW dealers. If they can not provide an ETA then also the 1.2 variant is not bad at all.

And incase if you are wondering what difference would the 1.3L on punto make about the 1.2L on polo.

The 1.2L on polo is a 3cylinder engine. Which is why it is exceptionally silent and efficient.

That said, it is not as nearly powerful as 1.3MJD engine that is on punto.

Punto will give you better torque, less to none turbo lag..turbo will kick in early.

and nothing like it if you can opt for the 90bph version... that shall put polo 1.6L to utter shame in terms of raw performance.

But for a person with 90% city ride, i wouldn't really care about those.

yes basically the point it to confuse you with more info n perspectives... but believe me, the satisfaction you will get after landing on a decision after thinking through will be unmatched :)

^ VW A.S.S still belongs to unknown territory apart from high spare parts costs. I would suggest check and test drive both cars in person and book which ever you feel meets your requirement in better way. :)

As an FYI, beat Diesel will be on roads in next one month. According to CNB, its very very good, only downside will be the boot space, if you have no issues with boot space I strongly recommend this.
Believe me GM maintenance is very low ( atleast for my Beat LT petrol), and LT(O) comes with ABS + AIRBAGS + ALLOYS , which is VFM.
Claimed milage is 24L. I guess you wil get it. as beat was told a milage of 18 I am getting 18 with 80% AC :)

@Madnav Thanks alot dude..

Will check For Punto 90Bhp ..

Have already seen Polo and even got a quote... So its upto Final Decision now....

Even I consider the i20 and the Etios as the best contenders for Chaffeur driven car at 7.5L. Din't mention the i20 as I thought the OP is highly inclined towards interior build quality, which is somewhat lacking in the i20 as compared to the German rival.

But now I see the OP is even considering the Punto! The most infamous car for using cheap-breakable-plastics.

@Everyone: Don't you find anything wrong with the OP's selection of the Polo?

Requirements/Usage:

90% in City and will be Driven by a Chauffeur.

Polo's biggest drawbacks are directly conflicting with OP's usage:

Backseat of Polo: Non-existent!

Cost of parts (I'm assuming scratches/scars are common when a car is driven for 45km inside the city): Polo fails here miserably, the cost of parts and repairs is pretty high.

Even the Beat seem weird to me when considering its cheap rear door-handle. Moreover, at a 7.5L budget, I can't imagine the owner using that handle to get inside the backseat. Then sitting inside for the journey with just the tiny windows to look out.

@Beat owners: No offense meant. I know it's an extremely VFM, driver oriented, and cool looking Autobot. But does not seem right with the chauffeur at the driver seat!

Really surprised by this. Its an export model, and while I dont expect polo class build quality, its way better than suzuki et al. Its interior is also well put together. Whoever told u its made with cheap materials either expects audi quality interiors in a city commuter or hasnt got a clue about quality

Many of my friends told that Punto is Like a Vault on Road... So I was considering that..

Polo was so good even in the back... Very comfortable.. So i was inclined to it.. Only worried about the VW A.S.S

Etios - Great except for the 7 Month wait period

i20 - A FIRM NO

Beat - Backseat is kinda Cramped but good Mileage.. So last option

Swift - Again a 4 Month Wait period

Fiesta- It was a great Pleasure, But worried about the Ford's A.S.S

Jazz- Higly Overpriced But a great Car..

Figo- Strict Budget Car... Only 6.5L but not soo great

These are the Cars I have seen so far.. Haven't seen Etios/Punto for real..

Now tell me Guys

Considered City but Over the Budget.

he maybe talking about exterior quality..which i felt too.

interior is good on i20.

interior is plasticy on punto.

interior is good on polo. dashboard is not appealing to eyes if you liked i20 interior.

If it's a purely chauffeur driven car, then i20 is a pretty good candidate as i20 interiors are really upmarket if you see. The interiors do look like the car belongs to a class above and plenty of features as well. Don't know about the ride quality though.

On the other hand, the build quality and driving pleasure of the Punto and Polo cannot be matched by i20. Also the ride quality of Punto is class leading.

As you said, Figo is a great VFM car for budget buys but not really on par with the cars under consideration here. Beat is quite small in comparison and really not a good candidate for your requirements IMO.

I would be looking at i20/Punto/Polo extensively and settling for one among them. Take back to back test drives, examine the interiors, ride comfort and features well and decide.

PS: Don't know much about Etios so can't comment. It may be a great buy too.

Go for Diesel. I find City drives consuming more fuel than long distance. Plus Petrol prices can go up again while Diesel won't go up much.
When I was buying my Linea the sales guy told me in Indian conditions Airbags isn't necessary. Airbags come into use when accidents happen at very high speeds like 200.

Make sure you get the maximum extended warranty possible.

Airbags are very much necessary. What do you care about...? a couple of ten thousand Rs. or your life?
Why compromise on safety bcoz of just a couple of thousand bucks.

Alsom airbags deflate at any speed above 40kmph.

EDIT:
My 2 cents about the cars being discussed (i've driven almost all of em) (mentioning -ves and +ves)

VW Polo - Diesel - autorickshaw like sounding putrr putrr diesel engine with poor torque - reason: 3 cylinder engine, the rear seat has poor legroom +best build quality of all Warning: High Spares Cost
VW Polo - petrol - same autorickshaw like sounding engine but toque lesser than the diesel mill. rear seat poor legroom + buildquality Warning: High Spares Cost

Skoda Fabia - Build quality : Excellent! But same putrr putrr 1.2 dsl engine from polo. Warning: High Spares Cost

Figo
- +No turbo lag., +Ample of space at the rear. +Features + reasonable maintenance costs (lesser than swift) +boot space -rear power windows -looks suck - okayish build qual.

Punto - Fiats are brilliant handlers but Indians perceive fiat as a stay away brand. -Okayish quild quality -poor resale value + 1.3 MJD loads of torque. + Blue&ME - tata A.S.S

i20
- 1.2 Petrol has poor FE + 1.4 oil burner dzl is awesome! + good build quali. + loads of features + good looks + hyundai's network -poorest steering feedback. seems like driving a boat

Jazz
- looooaaaaaaadz of space! + what a beauty to drive + magic seats + honda reliability -high price +discounts on offer. negotiate and you could get a gr8 offer.

upcoming launch : Toyota Etios Liva (hatch) - on 27th June. (This car has the potential to send the maruti swift to its grave)

^^Thanks alot for those points dude..

I was onto Jazz, but it being Petrol and 1.2L for 8L, i thought its a waste..

Regarding Polo... Must see..

Punto - Definitely under consideration... Looking at the Top end Diesel Varient now..

jazz price cut is confirmed and expect the price to drop by atleast 70k.

jazz select (middle model) has a current discount of Rs.55k off and insurance at Re.1 (worth Rs.20k) so total of Rs. 75k is off.

Jazz select is Rs. 7,52,xxx/- in HYD so that means you can get jazz select at Rs. 6,77,000/- ex showroom including insurance. That's a pretty good deal I think. If you haggle a bit hard, you can get some more cash discount and freebies accessories (try converting them into cash discount)

After the price cut, all discount offers will vanish for sure. For more discounts, try negotiating in the last week of the month coz sales reps have to meet monthly targets.

P.S - All the above hassle if you're considering a petrol car :)

^^Thats good.. Thanks

R8 now we are considering moving closer to my Dad's Office..

So the Choice is a petrol Car now..

Considering VW Polo 1.6L Highline and Ford Fiesta 1.6 ..

Which one guys..? This will be final Decision... No other car please

BTW I am From Hyd.. So that Jazz option is good... But thats my LAST OPTION r8 now...

OK guys..

Finally Decided on the All New Ford Fiesta, releasing in July... 1.5 Diesel..

The Ford Fiesta : Test Drive & Review - Team-BHP is up...

I feel its one step ahead of all cars.. And Looks Much cooler than the Fluidic Verna.

It has ABS and Dual Airbags as Standard throughout the models..

Waiting for the release now

I didn't read all previous posts so sorry

Diesel are on high maintenance compare to petrol and after 3 years ready to pay more after owing two diesel car safari and indica although i sold off my indica and still have safari its in his 5th year and 3 petrol cars (2 I10 and corolla )

People like you are very rare who think about safety first then money . People might say you don't need abs or airbags but people who had meet accident and abd - airbag saved there life i know 3 people .

also VW car has expensive service and some place poor ASS . many people are complaining about this .

new Fiesta is good car . My vote goes to new fiesta then polo
