Hi guys,
After a lot of searching found out the Polo to be best for my needs. Really loved the German Design and Quality..
Now I am in slight confusion:
I can get the
1)Comfortline Diesel+Standard pack(I.e. With MP3 player and Covers etc.) for 7.6L
OR
2)Highline Petrol at 7.5L..
I want to know which car to take..

Requirements/Usage:
90% in City and will be Driven by a Chauffeur.
Will be driven about 50KM daily.
In future,I plan of Driving the car to myself ,So it should be good for Long Run(Say at min 5 years).

Now My Main Concerns:
1)If I go for Safety- Which I am thinking of- I need to goto Highline Version of Petrol
2)If I go for maximum FE- Based on my usage, you guys suggest - I need to go for the Comfortline Diesel
3)I heard that the 1.2L Diesel Engine is not that great..
4)How are the Service costs..?

This said, please tell me whether to go for the Pertol or Diesel?
If Petrol, Do suggest whether the 1.2L or 1.6L Should be taken..
Any other suggestions will also be considered..

Petrol = Big No raising costs and also youw ill use it for city drive, you might have to be ready for big hole in your pocket if you take petrol.
But if you dont care about running costs but want a beast then I suggest for 1.6 petrol.

I dont Want it to have high running costs... So I need one with Higher Fuel Efficiency and also Is ABS and Airbasg required for city driving?

Go for Diesel. I find City drives consuming more fuel than long distance. Plus Petrol prices can go up again while Diesel won't go up much.
When I was buying my Linea the sales guy told me in Indian conditions Airbags isn't necessary. Airbags come into use when accidents happen at very high speeds like 200.

Make sure you get the maximum extended warranty possible.

Thanks for that... So Buying without ABS and Airbags , i.e. Comfortline Diesel is enough no..

Even If I go on Highway, speeds wont cross 100... So np..

I agree but Please take the car with airbags if possible, fit them in comfortline. Anything is less important that safety of your own life..

especially if you have kids/family most of the times in car its always suggested to go for anything with airbags.

Thanks for that... WIll surely go for the one with ABS and Airbags..

Thinking of Petrol Highline now...

If you're going to be driven around then I don't think you need airbags or ABS because well uh, the airbags are in the front and most drivers are used to non-ABS cars anyways.

Also, I'm not sure if the VW people have told you this but due to a manufacturing defect the rear windows of the Polo don't go all the way down. They go about 50% down.

@RD274 I know this dude.. I Saw the car and liked it.. They go only 70% down..

So can I go for the Trendline/COmfortline diesel? No issues in City driving na..

BTW how is the Diesel Engine?

I think bumper-bumper traffic in city will put lots of mechanical load on the diesel variant. As per my experience petrol is smoother and easier to drive in city traffic. While the diesel is more fuel efficient.

So basically here's the equation when it comes to traffic filled city driving:

Petrol: Smooth drive (More revving capability, Ability to accelerate well in any gear) + Low mechanical load causing longer gearbox/components life + Low Initial cost + Low maintence cost - High fuel cost - High fuel consumption

vs.

Diesel: Low fuel cost + Low fuel consumption - Rough drive in bumper-bumper traffic - High mechanical load causing shortened gearbox/components life (Specially when it's chaffuer driven) - High initial cost - High maintenence cost (PS: Ive heard the 1Lac km-service is super expensive in german diesel cars)

Petrol takes the upper hand.

Let me know if I went wrong on some factor or missed some.

Edit:

JM2C: I cannot understand how can one possibly narrow down on a Polo for a chauffeur driven car in a 7.5L budget. The backseats are so darn cramped!

@OP: Please do a backseat test while the car is being driven (Stationary car doesn't take into account the proper space required by front seat occupants).

Would suggest a look at these options:http://www.carwale.com/research/com....aspx?car1=2018&car2=1898&car3=1690&car4=1640

The Etios has some serious backseat comfort, good finish and featured interiors, superb engine and component quality, while keeping the ownership cost to minimum.

@sato Thanks alot for those points..

I have narrowed on Polo as We want it to be easy to drive so that if we take out,it will be easy in the City traffic..

We were actually considering the Fiesta 1.4 CLXI but wanted a small car so went for Polo

So you say that the Maintenance cost of Diesel is more..

I wanna ask one Question, Is it really high so that the difference in running costs is also compensated?

If so then I will go for Fiesta Petrol 1.6 or Etios...

Most extended warranty schemes cover everything except consumables. If you consider the high cost of petrol & chances of it increasing again, Diesel is anytime better. Diesel prices cannot be increased beyond an extent because of its usage by Public Transport systems.

Since you are a quality-oriented buyer, who cares about running/ownership costs, the Fiesta is simply NOT an option. Spare costs are high, interiors are super-cheap-plastic and doesn't tick any other of your requirements either.

Etios is definitely a contender.

Sadly no warranty-scheme covers the 1L km service properly as the cost of filters/spares is quite alot (Heard so). So practically these schemes aren't worth at all, unless one is buying an outdated/Global-EOL car.

^^Ok Thanks dude...

Fiesta is out... IS Etios Good?

I will check it out then.. Hope the cost is around 7.5L max..

--- Updated Post - Automerged ---

Hi dude.. after considering all options and even the Etios, As the Waiting period of Etios is 7months, i want to go for Polo

Now I am stuck Between 1.2L petrol and 1.6L petrol... Please help me out.

Etios is a really good car

Regarding Petrol Diesel, go for the Petrol one. Better choice. And Diesel might get it's subsiby ripped off, which means it's price will become Rs. 60.

1.6L petrol between those two :)

my dad has polo 1.6L

and i would very much suggest you invest in diesel version with that much commute.

with 90% city you would get 10kmpl on 1.6L petrol.

running cost will be half over diesel variant.

50km per day 5L petrol.. close to 350 per day.

diesel will give you atleast 15kmpl in city and that will cost you close to 150 per day. a difference of 200 per day...

price difference between equivalent models of petrol n diesel is 1.1L

1.6L variant is i think 35-40k more than 1.2L petrol.. let us take 30k for calculation.

so the total difference you would pay will turn out to be 80k

80k/200 = 400days..

even after calculating holidays in a calender year..you would cover that 80k excess spending in less than 2yrs..

Also, diesel variant is not bad. Torque is still higher than petrol 1.6L. bhp wont matter much if your drive is basically 90% city.

The engine is silent too..

That said.

If you are not hell bent on polo.. then a better vfm diesel car is punto. you may acquire a 90bhp model for less than cost of polo.

And lastly, in you can wait.. VW may be launching diesel with 1.4 or 1.6 .. the same engine they would be using for skoda fabia.

which brings me to say, skoda fabia is equally capable and fabulous car and will cost around 50k less than polo while comparing similarly equipped variants.

The downside with polo however will be the waiting period.

both fabia and punto will be available to be taken home in less than a month in most cities ..

petrol per liter in 2005 = Rs. 42-44 / now: rs. 64.

dsl in 2005 rs. 33, now rs. 36 = U decide.

Price of dsl will rise soon it won't be as high as petrol. Also check Ford Figo fully loaded desl model. Punto dsl is a very good choice however resale value can be a setback in india. test drive all 3 before blindly buying polo.

^diesel prices will always be subsidized because that directly reflects in the prices of household and food prices.

fuel is still cheaper where you live rockfella.

in mumbai it is 68 for petrol and diesel is above 40... 42 i think.
