Well, after the last couple of threads listing service issues with Dell, I thought I would post about a pleasant experience a friend had.

Last Thursday night, we had an outdoor party when his Latitude 5500 (DJ system :P) got really hit as a couple of tent poles went flying in high winds, taking the whole system/table/speakers with it.

The result? A broken LCD, and no idea what else. Luckily the system was under complete-cover, but we didn't know how long the repair would take.

Called up Dell on Friday and they promised someone would be along on Monday. An engineer came along yesterday, spent some time, replaced the screen, and alls well :D

Yes, its complete-cover and its Business Level Support (Latitude/Vostro/Precision), but its still a good experience :)

I have the same super experience everytime. Plus i have 24x7 x 4Hrs onsite, so it really doesnt matter what & where, they send two guys, one with spares, and the other to fix it. Back up and running asap.

Ofc business cover & complete cover which is hefty charge, but a good support experience always.

P.S. They have supported me for: Alcohol in laptop, broken LCD, broken hinge, broken body, damaged trackpad, broken keyboard, and 'minor scratches on body' at various times in the last 3 years :D

@axeman
i thought they wud service only if the damage prevents normal working of lappy.

so they even repair scratches?
my XPS have even got dents lol
but still works:S

wats the cover charge like?

I believe our office pays 3-4k extra on the laptop price. Typically what I have in my Sig below (E5400) costs us 53-54k.

As for scratches, when I last got the keyboard replaced, the dell chappie noted in his job sheet that the laptop top cover has some scratches.

In 2/3 days I got a call that this was noted by the engg and would you like to replace the panel, ofc I said yeah!

:O Are you sure you don't use the laptop for anything else other than its specified purpose? How did you manage to get it damaged so many times? Dell must be rethinking its policies after experiences with people like you.. :P

Travel frequently, Bike, Flight. Esp. at the Airport where they Xray ur handbag, accidents happen. More so when places like Delhi & Hyd insist you to take the laptop out and place in a seperate tray. Plus many late night experiences with friends will cause damage. Once my bag fell out of the overhead bin causing the hinge to break. No issues, called up and they were at my office by the time I reached there.

Frankly with Dell I see people either on the 100% + or 100% - side, very very interesting.

Hi Guys, I work with Dell India and yes we do cover 'accidental damages' for our customers if the system has a complete cover warranty. Good to hear the techie's friends system is up and running.
