PC Peripherals DELL Warranty ROCKS

Ya picture quality (apart from the strong colors) is quite good.viewing angle is great and black levels are quite good.

Can you guys tell me ideal settings for this monitor?? I mean what are the ideal contrast ration, brightness , RGB settings for this monitor?? Atleast tell me about your settings??
regarding the issue of videos playing in slo mo , i still don't know whether it's my monitor or some codec issue.I do have a reasonably fast pc(for movies) ---specs-- E4400,2GB ran, 8600gt.So hardware isn't the problem.Anybody else has this issue?? Try to watch aerial shots where the camera takes you from one building to another.

@farookh, I too got a 2407 on saturday and managed to connect it with my pc yesterday night. It got one dead pixel, but towards the left hand side corner and is not at all bothering.
Care to share two things? how to check the manufacturing date? and how to upscale divx ?

thanks

Mahesh

Manuf Date is mentioned on the sticker below USB ports at back.

Attached a ICC profile made with spyder see if that helps all colors @ 99%
Bright/Contrast 50
dump the file in C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color folder and select profile in your driver.

Important Info:

All Dell 2407 WFP-HC monitors suffer from ghosting. Dell admits it and offers full refund if users cant adjust even after some brightness and RGB setting prescribed were tried. It says within 30 days here...Hope Farookh is right though...

TFT Central - Dell 2407WFP-HC Ghosting Issues?

This fix helped some:

A simple fix for the Dell 2407 Ghosting Problem

I noticed some annoying ghosting off the box...But that was almost fixed after reducing the brightness and calibrating.

I dont haver any dead pixels...The DVDs look superb but the aXXo rips which are obv compressed show noticeable noise...I know it shows up on any monitor but I notice it more with the 2407...

wats the Dell Replacement Policy for Dead pixels ? my Friend is having one Dead Pixel @ the Top Right Corner of his Dell Lcd

* 6 or more fixed pixels anywhere warrants a replacement monitor

* 2 adjacent fixed pixels are within our allowed specifications and does not warrant a replacement monitor
* 1 fixed pixel in the center is within our allowed specifications and does not warrant a replacement monitor

* You may return or exchange any Dell product, no questions asked, within 21 days from the invoice date. After that, you can only do a like for like refurbished exchange.

* Possible cure for a fixed pixel as reported by DCF users
Try using Dead Pixel Buddy which will cycle the main RGB colors on every pixel at a very rapid rate in the hope of fixing the stuck pixel.

Thx a lot.BTW, you are in india right? Since those in america receive monitors manufactured in mexico and they will be different from those made in china.

Vij

for 2407wfp-hc no refund period cut out date before which u can ask for a CREDIT REFUND for GHOSTING ISSUE is 8/11/2007 i suggest u do it as soon as possible and not wait till the end i have no idea how this will work for people who bought their monitors from Raghu you might have to get in touch with him directly.

regards

@farookh

I just talked to Dell sales today and they said incase of monitor being returned within 21 days shipping cost would be borne by the customer. Is that what happened in your case also?

And.....have you tried 1:1 gaming yet on it? I guess my 7800GT won't cut it with Bioshock/HL2 Ep2 @1920, so would've have to play at 1:1 on 2407WFP. This was another reason I decided against other monitors.

No My case was diff i didnt return ne monitor only asked for an exchange casue the ones i got were not up to the quality i expected from dell and they just sent me no question asked Brand new replacements
Now 21 days return applies to new monitors and you will have to pay shipping
but in the case od 2407wfp-hc ghosting return you will get full credit.
Also if you guys want to get CRA just send that mail and you will get a full credit refund (ie whatever u paid for it)
1:1 is just great for people with low end graphics cards the scaling is so good on this monitor just check the 1280x1024 Race 07 images with the full 1900x1200. When scaling there is very little loss in sharpness if fact its as good as full. the 1280x1024 are taken by camera so just dont be fooled its very sharp & clear

Jeez!! Muchos gracias :hap2:

Thanks a ton, farookh! Gonna order it tomorrow morning. They also confirmed they no longer have any old stock, just had new stock of Oct arriving in Chennai. So should have mine by 27th.

Farookh, most of my ghosting problems are solved by reducing the brightness...Mine is 2407 WFP-HC with A00 rivision and almost 3 months old now.

Are the newer 2407 WFP-HC totally bug free? How is the video noise in compressed dvd rips, aXXo rips? I see lot of noise in compressed videos, but good quality ones play perfect.

Are you satisfied with the newer panels?

If yes, Il go for a replacement.

Or maybe I should just claim refund and go for E228WFP. But the colors in 2407 are so beautiful, wonder if that would be a good idea...

please advice...

Okay just hooked up another monitor to my computer and found that slo-mo issue i was talking about is not because of the monitor.Even the crt monitor showed the same effects. So it's certainly a codec issue.

Okay farookh , do you notice any color improvement in the newer 2407-HC panels?? I mean the ghosting may be there in games but i don't really play games on a computer .So not a problem for me.So i am not too sure whether i should go for a monitor replacement right now only for ghosting...If there is greater color accuracy in the newer panels , then i will surely go for them. Since you have all the three panels , tell me whether there is any improvement in color accuracy??
I have a 20 inch sony crt and colors are better on that.Apart from this drawback, it's an excellent monitor. Viewing angles are great, and so is scaling.

Also has anyone tried hooking up an xbox 360 or a ps3 to this monitor?? heard that ghosting is very noticable when you do that.... Also dell has said that it won't issue a fix to the ghosting on this monitor. You either have to live with it or sent it back to dell for money back before the date farookh mentioned. So is it about luck or are the newer ones better than the older ones??

Guys if u have a june panel just get it exchanged for a sept/oct panel.
There is without a doubt a major improvement in quality.2 things i noticed immediately was black tail is reduced and 1:1 scaling is now as good as full res in sept panel.
In the june panel i had back light bleeding in black screen in all 4 cornors this is not there now. Colors were good in all 3 monitors but june one not sharp text was fuzzy pics also didnt look good.
Also 1:1 scaling is now as clear or clearer try 1280x1024 and see fonts in 1:1 if they are sharp.

As far as ghosting in games i play medal of honor, bioshock, race07, dirt there is no ghosting at all even in 1900x1200

from the 3 i tried i think the newer one are definately better guys speak to Vivek also he aslo got a Sept 07 panel acc to him his is also very good.
I have my hathway DVB box set thru composite and have no problems with noise or ghosting. Pic attached you will see some noise but thats because i have not used flash.

Vij since yours is 2 months old the best option for u is to go for CRA
cause even if you replace yours u are going to get a refurblished one and not a new one which might turn out worse than what u have right now.
