PC Peripherals DELL Warranty ROCKS

I re-calibrated my monitor....toned dwn the brightness and contrast a tad and this seems quite good to me now...strange...

Anyways Il see how the refund thing works...coz I am wasting this monitor...

mine just arrived. mfg date:- august 2007, The new monitor had 2 min. on the service menu when i received it. So no doubt it is a brand new one. Unfortunately it didn't come witha power cord so couldn't hook up both the monitors simultaneously.

no dead pixels no other issues.Unfortunately this monitor too suffers from ghosting.but it's not that big a deal.Ghosting was almost invisible during game play.you have to really search to find it.the only game i could find where it was visible was Wow.

ghosting issue was much more visible while surfing certain sites like TE and hardforums.com .After adjusting brightness, contrast, etc ghosting nearly went away expect for ghosting on hardforums.com(it was readily visible on that site).

the only thing i am not sure about is ghosting during movies.I messed up my codecs and as a result all my vids appear in slow mo.i am sure that's not due to monitor since even my 19 inch crt shows the same effects.

All in all this monitor appears to be more or less the same as june model i got.June model did have a black spot at the center so i am keeping this one and returning the june model.

As far as video noise is concerned , it's rather difficult to say which one shows more noise.Only a side by side comparison will make that clear .but since i don't have the extra power cord, that's not possible.

Try this:

Color Format: PC RGB

Color Settings Mode: PC Mode

Color Adjustment: PC Custom Color

Red: 86

Green: 85

Blue: 84

And lower the brightness and contrast to about 45.

PS: These are not calibrated settings these are cheap workarounds...

After adjusting the setting, calibrating etc I cant find much wrong with it.

Anyways applied for CRA with Dell, India....They dont know anyth abt refund...They told me they will find out and let me know very soon.

I guess Il keep this though :)

Sure,

its very easy just download the pro ver from their site and use a pro serial No.

Not the one that came on your express cd.

pm me if u have problems

Guys,

I've been going through the forums like crazy for the past month trying to evaluate whether to go ahead with my purchase of 2407HC model. Have looked at various other forums as well(whirlpool/hardforum, etc.). Finally decided to go ahead and order the monitor on 18th Oct. Looking at the odds I was very much hedging my bets on the 21 day policy or even 8th Nov deadline(as told by ChrisM. Got my monitor on 25th. Packing was as I expected from Dell, excellent. But the first big blow was the manufacturing date, June '07. I thought these were the batches that had the most prominent issue with ghosting. Anyways, setup the monitor and was at first awestruck with image quality! Nothing seen like it. During the first hour I could not notice any ghosting. Zilch. Nada. But I was using Spyder ICC profile and color settings out of the box, could not stand the default brightness.

Over the next few hours, out of 5/6 scenarios which are known to produce ghosting only produced faint trails for text when dragging windows across. But this was hardly noticeable. Just to inform, I tried all the steps as given by bumsoil(during the 'great' ghsoting thread:

2407WFP-HC Ghosting/Shadowing issues... - Monitors (Stand Alone) - Dell Community Forum

And also on whirlpool:
Does Your Dell 2407WFP-HC Ghost? - Video - PC Hardware

"Go to this link www.lenscrafters.com, set Windows so that window contents are displayed while dragging, and drag the window around. Watch near the white text on the 'Service' tab as you drag." This is the one scenario out of all which produced ghosting but as mentioned earlier it was very faint and that too if you look closely at the text. For me, it's not distracting.

In a nutshell, I really don't think I'll be returning this monitor. I gues using proper calibrated settings a DVI connection helps.

EDIT: sorry folks, this is the copy/paste of the same post I've put up in Dell forums, so those of you from there will notice it there too.

@farookh

I gather out of those 4 boxes the blue labeled one is the June one, sine I too received the same box with June '07 panel.

Would it be possible for you to post a pic of the backlight bleeding of your monitor? I'll have my camera on monday and would post mine at that time.

I may just talk to Dell Cust care on monday and see if they can send me a newer panel for exchange so that I can compare which to keep of the two.

The best way to check ghosting on thsi monitor is to gotot hardforums.com and move the mouse ard. See if there is any ghosting.

BTW, not all june panels are bad. If there is nothing wrong with your panel, i suggest you stick with it.

Dell India refused refund.

Today I asked for a replacement and they promised to deliver the new post Aug panel within 48hrs.

Later got call frm Dell Rep in Hyd and he wanted to take the defective panel the very same day Dell delivers the new panel.

Not as lucky as Farookh I guess :p but I got what I wanted...So no complaints :)

The Dell rep was very confused when I mentioned the term "ghosting".

^^ ya they call it ghost images not ghosting . Anyway ask them to allow you to keep both the panels for a day or two to allow testing.

Got the replacement panel in 24hrs. Almost same...Slightly lesser ghosting at default and same result as the previous one after calibrating.

No dead pixels again....Satisfactory....But why cant Dell release a 2407 thats nice at default settings.

Farookh, hows your monitor at defaults...
