Laptops Dell XPS battery laptop issue

Hi,
My friend is having a Dell XPS laptop, his warrant (i yr complete cover) is expiring on May 15th.
Few days back he faced a problem where the the battery is showing only 42 % charge and is not charging beyond that
He called up the dell service centre and they replied that it is not a malfunction hence they would not replace the battery.
Is is right ??
what can be done in such circumstances ??
 
no.. get them to replace the battery as soon as possible. the battery only comes with a one year warranty. make sure they do it asap. after the 15th theres no way ur gonna get a replacement. if they dont agree, speak to a senior executive. ask him to call the xps centre on 1800-425-2066.
 
Drain off the battery completely and then start charging again. If it still gets stuck at 42%, then battery is faulty!
 
From what I recall , dell batteries carry only 6 months warranty. The same applies for batteries from all major laptop manufacturers .

the customer care is saying that Battery charging only upto 40 % is not malfunction , It a normal phenomena where battery life decreases over time:S
 
Update:

After writing a nasty mail my friend received a call from Dell and they have agreed to replace the battery. Will close this thread when the replacement is done. Thanks all of you for ur suggestions

btw dell batteries carry one year warranty from the day of order/in voive/or something like that..
 
Update: My friend recieved a new battery today :) This one is made in Japan (earlier one was made in korea)
