Did my PS3 just bum out on me?

Glad for you. :)

I think the hub is acting. Connect the console directly and check it for once. :P

Nope didn't work. Tried connecting directly via HDMI to the monitor, but it doesn't bring up any display. I'm stumped now! I even tried switching to HDMI from the display settings when I was using the composite cables.

@Stormblast: Do you mean video reset? I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but the video reset should apparently bring up some menu, but nothings coming up at all.

Had this issue when I first connected my ps3 via hdmi, but not ingame. I just long pressed the power button from standby condition till I heard two beeps and left the button, and then in about 5-6 seconds display appears and the ps3 asks whether to output via hdmi or not. Did you try it with different hdmi cables? and did you connect something other than the ps3 via hdmi and checked. After doing these tests you can find out whether the fault is of the cable or somehow the ports stopped working either at the tv or the ps3.

Well I have tried 2 HDMI cables so far and both of which, work flawlessly with my 360 (using the same set up). I tried to reset the settings by long pressing the power button and held it till it shut down (the first time) and then held it till it comes with the first boot up beep and then left it when it beeped the second time, but got nothing on the display. Do those 2 beeps come one after the other or a few seconds gap?

The console seems to be working fine on my CRT TV using the composite cables. What else can I try?

The second beep comes after some 2 or 3 seconds after the first. So, apparently something went wrong with the hdmi port of your ps3. But dont know why that should happen.

Can you try this. Long press the start button when in standby mode. You will hear two beeps as you already did and then if you keep it pressed it will shutdown. Now long press again this time after the two beeps instead of shutting down it will beep two more times in quick succession. Then leave the button and try.

If this works you will be shown a screen with connect your controller using a usb cable to your ps3 and press the ps button. Please try this and tell me the outcome.

I'm leaning towards that myself. I'll probably try it for the last time on a friend's HDTV, with my HDMI cable and one of his HDMI cable just to make sure of it. I can't believe this is happening within the first year of purchase itself. I haven't even used this console as much as I have used my 360, and the irony of 360's failure rates just pops up in my mind now.

@Pranay: Tried your suggestion and that didn't work either.

Then it should definitely be the port in your ps3. Dont know why this is happening. But better be it that you just got a defective one and that my new ps3 will be safe:)

Yep. I read up a couple of post on a couple of boards right now, which stated the same issue happening. Now that we have to put it to rest, I'll need to start it's RMA process over the weekend. So where is service centre located in Bombay? Also should I pack the entire bundle and take it along or just the console would do? How does the RMA process work?

I'll have format the HDD as well. Hope the new replacement comes with a lower firmware. :P

You ll have to take the full bundle.. Lock Stock and Barrel.

That's how they accept it. Sadly though.

EDIT: Pranay says differently. and it wd be gr8 if Sony has different procedure now.

but keep the accessories with u in ur car or whatever, just in case.

It would be sufficient if you take your console and your controller and a hdmi cable to demonstrate incase the center doesnt have one:). Also you dont need the bill, just the yellow coloured warranty card. And, atleast at my place the service center repairs the port and gives back our console afaik, which is better atm because if it is a complete replacement it would be new stock hence 3.55:(. So better insist on repair.

^^Didnt know you have to take the whole bundle, I dont need to at my place. Sorry for pointing you in the wrong direction.

OT but why doesnt TE have its own gamesharing(library) thread

Sorry for the double post. Dont know how it happened. Updated the post but got two posts instead!

If your console might get replaced you can't take guarantee of the firmware version and if they fix it they might update it to 3.55 themselves.Your chances are better in replacement.

Thank you for all your responses. I don't think they even touch the console, leave alone fixing it. From what I've heard, they just replace it. I'm sure they don't bother upgrading the firmware. They just hand over the replacement console as they get it, which I believe are refurbished ones. In any case, I just pray that it gets replaced soon. A month's wait would be agonising.

they will give you a new sealed console as a replacement, they open the seal in front of you. atleast that was the case with me.

just out of curiosity, can you try your hdmi wire on another ps3?

Tried it on another HDMI port on your TV? My cousin had the same problem...i just changed the HDMI port from HDMI 1 to HDMI 2 and voila!

Edit: just saw that you have a monitor and not a TV...this probably won't help you then..

@stormblast: If it's a cable issue then it should replicate the fault across other HDMI devices too. Both the cables that I tried are working fine on my 360.

@Fahrenheit: Like I said, I can try it on a friend's HTDV, before sending it off.

Hey where u removing the cable from the HDMI port of the PS3 continuosly to disconnect it and connect the 360,....may be the HDMI port on the PS3 has become loose or something,,,i know u use the HUB but still asking because I do the same thing,,,

As I live in the PG and dont have the hub ,,i disconnect the PS3 everyday and keep it inside cupboard for safety reasons,,,now I am scared that the my PS3's port might become loose one day and display gone due to loose HDMI port...:(:(
