How are Asus 6600 PCI-e cards? While searching for XFX 6600, one of dealers mentioned that he has an Asus Extreme PCI-e graphics card for Rs. 7050/-. I don't know whether its DDR or DDR2 or DDR3. I didn't pay much attention cause I thought that it was too expensive and anyway, I was searching for XFX cards.

If it turns out to be 6600 DDR3, then should I go for it or go for XFX 6600 (256MB, DDR2) which is Rs. 550/- cheaper?

If it is equipped with DDR3 then performance should be pretty good compared to ordinary 6600s.

But again, paying 7k for a 6600 and paying 8.5k for a 6600GT.....time to think.:!

Yup, thats a strong point indeed. Try to stretch your budget as to hook a 6600GT.

It offers at least a 30% gain in performance over a 6600 and you dont have to go worrying if it comes equipped with DDR or DDR2 or even DDR3 memory..;)

As far as performance is considered, you wont regret the price increase..:)

Try and get a 9800 Pro if possible. Equals a 6600GT in older games and thrashes a 6600 Non-GT in most games.

You'll get a used card for about 4.5k which is pretty decent..

^^One flaw... NO SM 3.0 in the 9800 Pro :bleh:

But yeah, rather then you go with the 9800 Pro, if not the 6600GT.

^^ I thought he wanted a PCI Express card..

Btw, Andy on checking, u haven't mentioned whether it was a PCI express or a AGP card u were mentioning as a requirement here..

Actually when he mentioned nvidia 6600's prices, i assumed PCI express, coz you have all those choices only for PCI express.. :)

Any difference in performance between the 128MB and 256 MB version of XFX GeForce 6600 for current as well as likely future games?
The 256 MB version will last a bit longer (future wise) since it'll handle slightly more intensive games a tad easier...
Avoid LE versions which r POS
The 6600GT is a better bet, if u can get a 6600 DDR2 go for it...price should be the same, max 500 buckz more...
Big is the opposite of its name a POS....get any other brand...Asus anyone?? :bleh:

I need a PCI-e card. Actually, I am already stretching my budget even to get a 6600 so a 6600GT seems out of the question. It seems that a 6600 will play most of the games that I want to play satisfactorily.

I think it should also be good enough to play games like FIFA World Cup 2006, cricket 2006 when they r released.

For AOE3 and future games like LOTR: Battle 4 Middle Earth 4, Caesar4, Simcity 5 etc., I have a sinking feeling that even 6600GT will also not be enough to play these games so I am better off buying 6600 now and a much more powerful card 18-24 months later.

I called up the shop selling Asus 6600 pci-e card and they told me that they have Asus extreme N6600(256MB, DDR3) for Rs. 6900. I don't really trust these dealers to have a good knowledge of the cards specifications so I'll beleive it only when I see the box. So should I go for this card? Any issues with Asus pci-e cards? Everyone seems to be getting only XFX cards.

I'll be upgrading to:

Athlon64 3000+ (Venice core)
Asus A8N-E
512 MB DDR (Kingston) (I'll add an additional 512 MB after a few months)
Seagate 200 GB SATA
BenQ DW-1640
450W mercury psu (please don't ask me to get a better one as there isn't any in my city)
iball Benz ATX cabinet

From my old system:

17" LG Flatron
Creative Audigy2 ZS

Thx. guys for all ur help. I really appreciate it. Btw, Rashi peripherals website quoted the price of XFX GeForce 7800 GTX as 58,950/-. The same card seems to cost around $500 on Amazon. How come we Indians have to pay such a high price. We r not as rich as americans. Infact, we should be paying less.

^^ i think u are missing something there buddy ..... XFX 7800GTX was 32500 when i got it and currently its around 29500 ...... GTX 512 is around 42000 now ....

Those website prices are a joke!!

Its not updated periodically and show the prices when the card/product was introduced..

Its much better to go to a dealer and enquire. Also, a point worth noting is that Asus products cost a little more then the competition..

So a 6600 from XFX may cost 6k but from Asus would cost around 7k..:)

The 6600 doesnt have the juice to utilize 256MB.

Just get the 6600 128MB DDR3.

DDR3 is better than DDR2 anyways.

The use of 256 mb Vram is only required for playing at high res. New games will not give a playable framerate with the 6600 at high res so its no use going for the 256 mb version as everyone else has said. about the 6600 ddr-3 verison, ive never heard of it, what are the core and mem speeds?

Asus Extreme N6600TOP/TD (128MB, DDR3):

Engine Clock: 400MHz
Memory Clock: 900GHz(450MHz DDR3)
RAMDAC: 400MHz
Memory Interface: 128-bit

Seems ok, but u said the price was 6.9 k right? If u can get a 6600 gt for approx 7.6 k why would u want to go for this card?
