Difference between Xbox 360 & PS2 not obvious to Indian reviewer

The problem with most gamers is that they believe HDTV's run at some kind of mystical resolution that is unachievable by any other display. The truth however is that most monitors can easily achieve the resolutions of the most hyped Plasmas and then some and while they don't usually match in size they at least don't have to deal with the upscaling nuisances that HDTV's go through.

But when it comes to must-have games, the XBox 360 falls short, as it couldn't play XBox, PS or computer games, and while there are several good titles that will be available at launch and many more will follow, there's nothing earth-shattering about them.
Thing is we must look at the targetted audience. Its the 'aam junta' that the 'review' is targetted at. And the 'aam junta' mentality is a console carrying such a high price tag SHOULD play all teh games in the world. to that kinda crowd, that sentence makes perfect sense.

not so long ago, when the performance shattering 'DDR' RAM was released i went to the market to buy one 256MB for my KT133 board :P
Point is, the majority (i wud dare to say 99.99%) of the population dont know or wouldn't know what the X360 is capable of or what it is meant for. Given such an audience, the review makes sense :P

^^ The PS2 games arent exactly cheap either...

Edit: LOL, Sorry Aces, Blyme, I just didnt take the original games into consideration.

The *ahem* games are 50 bucks though :D.

And thanks nikhil for pointing that out :P.

At 50 bucks per game, they are so damn costly, OMFG!!!!
Aces, please think twice, rather thrice before posting such $|-||7.

Thanks and Regards.
DC.

He is talking abt original games :P....

Wow....don't tell me they tried that first...(couldn't instead of can't?!)

All that proves is India will take a long, long time before it levels other countries in mainstream gaming. When somebody said its the Aam Janta this review is directed at, its right, because I know some of my friends would take this review without any problems.

The X360 is like a sports car in India - Only for a privileged few. Even though it's meant to be an economy car as it is abroad.

^^ i know what u mean.. the everyday cars abroad such as the Camry, Accord, Mondeo are still 'premium' cars in INdia :D

what kind of tv does an average indian have?

And in case he doesn't have an HDTV then what console should he spend money on?

read the paragraphs posted in the first post. Which part of this doesn't make sense apart from your statement that the reviewer is a retard????

Oi we're not talking about the average indian here... the average indian lives in mud huts... with enough money just for a fan... we're talking about indians who have enough money to spend on a "game console". So it's pretty damn obvious when he reviews a console he review it on what it is meant to be run on. < edited >

Define average Indian

The Samsung 26" HDTV's being used in the X360 kiosks are around 45K and it doesn't support 1080p. All that is stilll pretty much double the price of an X360. Imagine a good LCD or plasma capable of 1080p that is over 32" in size.

Yes...An average Indian will not invest 20k just to play games...

shall we say an average Indian Techy/gamer

You can get top quality 34 inch HD crt tv for around 35-45k. One can easily get a 29 inch crt under 30k.So i don't think they are that expensive. Nowhere does the reviewer say that his review is for "aam aadmi" only. BTW, aam admis don't really buy gaming consoles in india. And if he was talking about the middle class , then HD tvs are certainly affordable. The only point is they must know what(which tvs) to buy and where to look.

Besides xbox360 looks better even on normal 29 inch tvs that sell for as low as 16k these days and many indians these days do actually have 29 inch tvs in their households.

Besides the reviewer ends his review by asking customers to wait for PS3 and ninento before buying xbox360. Now if this review was for aaaaammm aadmi then somebody plz. tell me how the hell can they afford a PS# for around 40-45k when they are no position to afford even a 29 inch tv??

'aam junta' in the terms of 'layman' not in terms of GDP. there are hoards of ppl with the money and yet they dont/cant make a wise choice when it comes to technology.

I wouldn't say better but they aren't too far behind either. Also, cheap HDTV's =/= good HDTV's. you need a good one to experience the X360 and the Ps3 to the fullest or there is no point in getting one to begin with.

Well i wasn't talking about some not so good HDTVs that sell cheap. Well you can easily get a philips 34 inch HD CRT that does 1080p under 45k or ven a sony 34 incher under 50k.These tvs can easily compete with the best inlcds and plasmas. But then, like i said, when you say HDTVs many think one is referring to those uber expensive 32 inch lcds or 50 inch plasma tvss. Most won't even know that HD has nothing to do with lcds and plasmas and even some crts can do hd and can be bought for much less.

Even if you don't have a good tv one can easily coonect them to any modern 19 inch computer monitor and find a huge diff. in picture quality.

Also xbox360 isn't about better eye candy or graphics alone.Xbox360 is capable of doing much more physics and offers more detail compared to ps2.Correct me here if i am wrong. A game is not just about eye candy or how good it looks.

What the reviewer said makes sense only if this entire thing is considereed from piracy point of view. Now i don't know what the current situation with regard to piracy of xbox360 titles in india is. If xbox360's pirated titles are not easily available then i can understand his whole point.I mean i belong to middle class and i can easily afford the hardware needed but what i am not prepared to do is buy thier original not so good games for Rs.3k or wait for months to get good titles.I mean if gears of war and other good titles aren't available in india and all i can find is stupid tennis games for 3k a piece then i simply won't bother buying an xbox360.
