Very good, i have a query.

Say you have a DLNA server, how will you access its content on your lumia phone. What DLNA client is available ?

Idea is to play movies on your lumia over wifi from the DLNA server.

So how do people play movies on their lumia then ? transfer over with wifi and play locally. This is a hassle.

Heard Nokia has an app called 'Play To' which might work. Anyone want to try it out and let us know.

Brings up another point, how good is the codec support on WP8 ? What about MKV playback.

Or to put it another way, what codecs will WP8 NOT play ?

Nope no .mkv playback. Supports .mp4 and .wmv.

I prefer dragging and dropping the files over USB. Updates to the OS are OTA and prompts come up often asking us to switch to a WiFi connection to start the update.

.3gp is also supported.

From Flipkart :
Music Player Yes, Supports MP3, eAAC+
Video Player Yes, Supports M4V, VC-1, 3GPP, MPEG-4, WMV 9, ASF, H.264, AVC, H.263, HD

Nope no .mkv playback. Supports .mp4 and .wmv.
ok, so this is ironically like with apple, have to swap the mkv container out for mp4.

No dragging required if dlna works, just click & play via streaming. Much more flexible.

Amber update ? sounds promising. Very little info on it to date other than rumours.

That's the one i was referring to, its free, for now.

Now couple that with a simple DLNA server like Llink and can somebody tell us what the result is like ?[DOUBLEPOST=1372943790][/DOUBLEPOST]
What of files that weigh in at say 2-3 GB? Transferring over WiFi takes longer.

What write speed do you get via USB/min ?

these flash memory cards for all the hype have slow write times and still a while to go before they trouble USB2.[DOUBLEPOST=1373012327][/DOUBLEPOST]Some more WP8 DLNA apps to try out

My Media Hub

Linada

'My Media Hub' is not able to stream H.264 videos to my Focus - WP7.5, but works with MP3 files. The videos are converted for Zune and are playable using the web interface of the GoFlex[DOUBLEPOST=1373299934][/DOUBLEPOST]Linada was not working. It seems to be a media controller. UPnP player only seems to support songs.

Very good, that leaves just Nokia's 'Play To' app to test.

The plex one i don't think will work with any other DLNA server except Plex, which AFAICT isn't free.
