So is India doomed to corruption forever? Your post is very grim. :( However what do you think? Do you think people can naturally realize that the very key to stopping corruption in India is to improve their sense of morals? Do you think it's actually possible without a powerful leader like Anna Hazare (he's uber-powerful) to perpetrate that fact?

Isn't that very obvious that India is doomed for ever the way people are and things are going? Do you really think that having someone like Anna Hazare who is him self delusional and confused about what he wants and has a pretty screwed up sense of morals (There was more than one occasion when he supported corrupt, fraud and illegal actions from his team) leading the people is gonna change anything. He basically displays the maturity of a 4 year old who is throwing tantrums for getting something the way he wants and only the way he wants caring about nothing else and nobody else. What exactly is he gonna do? Does implementing some new bills gonna change anything. Who is gonna enforce those. If the people who are to enforce them have the same half arsed sense of morals, how are the bills going to be enforced. For a moment even if we assume that Anna Hazare is the pinnacle of honesty and has the best of morals, and totally not self righteous, how is he gonna see that the things he proposed are enforced if nobody else is gonna change?

People support Anna now because he is blindly targeting the govt (not corruption). If he is really serious about eradicating corruption, Let him try some move that is directly going to impact the common people (like some rigorous measures against tax evasion from the common people as well) and see how quickly people disappear from his camp? Our politicians are also merely a reflection of the common people. They siphon crores of public money because they do have easy access to it. Do you think a person who produces fake medical bills to claim a mere 15k medical cover from his company would leave any stone unturned when he has the means to swipe away crores of rupees? Do you think if a person like Kiran Bedi who forged documents to defraud someone to get more money in the name of her trust would not be tempted to siphon crores of rupees if given the chance and then maybe people like Anna Hazare would justify how great a thing she has done. The only difference between the people and the politicians in this country is the amount money they have access to for them to pocket. Given the chance, more than 80% of the people who currently go behind anna with their anna caps and t-shirts would have no qualms about doing the same things as our politicians. Maybe at best they will sugar coat it like Kiran Bedi does. The best analogy for the people in our country is that of a bunch of pick pockets trying to condemn a bank robber, but if given the chance they too would rob banks.

If a really upstanding and honest person walks into politics and wants to make some radical changes to the system from bottom to top, do you think our village folk (where most of the votes come from) would vote for someone who is giving free money, booze, food and other gifts to buy votes or for someone who intends to bring in policies that is going to make then stop their arbitrary illegal siphoning of electricity without meters, pay taxes to govt for what they earn, stop getting free money under various govt programs using fake certificates and paying bribes? Leave everything alone, does a truly honest person ever have an ice cubes chance in hell to win elections in this country?

Ultimately its the nature of the people that have to change. There no other way for stopping corruption. Every other method is moot. If that is not gonna happen, then forget about corruption ending too.
