Does access point reduce internet speed?

Not yet. Not in any urgency as currently RE200 does the job, though speed is a bottleneck.
Looking for suggestions now...

Hi, wondered if you found a solution to your problem. I have the same issue with the RE605X. My router runs at over 900Mbps. Through wifi the extender in my kitchen gives me about 250Mbps. I set it up as a wired AP, thinking I would get nearer the 900Mbps, but I'm only getting 90Mbps. I tested the cable on a laptop and it's fine, giving me speeds of 90oMbps.
I chatted to a technician at TP Link who initially thought the extender was limiting the speed, but after sending them various screenshots of readings they said it was fine. They put it down to an incompatibility issue between my Router and the RE605X.
I'm finding this hard to believe and am still looking into resolving the issue.

First things first. What exactly do you mean by your router runs at 900mbps? What exactly is your router model? Do you know that not all lan ports on ISP provided modem/router are gigabit (bsnl provided optical fiber modem/router for example comes with 2 lan ports out of which one is gigabit while other is 100mbps)? Did you check the speed on your laptop while connected to the same lan port on your router which is now connected to extender?

Also, sometimes changing the wire helps. Try with a 4-pair wire that came with the router/extender.

My internet speed is actually 1000Mbps, so on average it really runs at around 900Mbps. That exact same cable that is connected to the RE605X, when connected to a laptop, shows speeds of around 900Mbs. So the cable/port is not an issue.

Plus that cable is wired into the house, so can't really change it. I'd be better off just connecting the extender to the router via WiFi. Going to talk to my internet provider to see if they have any ideas.

RE605X has only one gigabit ethernet port so when you are connecting laptop to it then how can you get 900mbps speeds on laptop when RE605X itself is getting around 400-500mbps speed over wifi from isp/main router. I am saying to connect your laptop to isp/main router via ethernet port & then check speed not by connecting it to 605X via ethernet.

I didn't connect the laptop to the RE605X via an ethernet cable.
I connected the same cable that was coming from the router to the Laptop. So this shows there is nothing wrong with the wired connection.
 
In your RE605X settings check what is the ethernet port speed/negotiation speed & if set to auto then change to 1000mbps/1gbps full duplex.
Hi, that's what the technicians at TP-Link said to do, and it was set to 1000mbps. I sent them screenshots and they confirmed all was ok.
